Sailing Ships and other joys......

Post by Happy2BHome » Mon Aug 31, 2009 4:09 pm

We have embarked upon the first year in our homeschooling adventure! So many have told me of their never ending search for the perfect curriculum. I am thankful to say that I believe we have found our perfect fit in HOD. Thank you Carrie for your thoughtful, insightful, and quality curriculum!!!! :D

We are in our third week of Bigger and my DD and I have been so INSPIRED! Some of my favorite moments so far are as follows:

1. When seeking the dictionary definition of pride, we found the word modesty. This thought developed into a wonderful discussion about immodesty in clothing, which is to draw attention to yourself, therefore pride. I have been so thankful for the many teachable moments these lessons have provided.

2. My DD was asked by a family friend what she had been learning in school. I was suspicious that the one asking was checking up on me. But, DD went into a detailed account of Columbus and Cabot, including country names and routes.

3. The verse memorization has been so fun! While learning these precious Words of Almighty God, my DD took the challenge to increase her stamina with the exercises.

4. Today she has built a huge ship in the living room made of chairs, pillows and blankets. She is using the language of the books we have been reading; first mate, sailor, deck, mast, sails, trading, spices, voyage etc.... She asks, "Can a woman be a ship's captain?" "Of course," I say. She then takes all of her children with her on a voyage.

5. When sitting across from me completing her English assignment (her least favorite subject) she said, "I am so thankful I'm home schooled. There are so many distractions at school. I can focus here."

These are just a few of the many joys I've experienced in the last three weeks. My heartfelt THANK YOU goes to Carrie and all who help make these wonderful, Savior based curriculums! May you, your families, and your ministries be blessed beyond what you can think or imagine!

Happy2BHome I know this is to Carrie but I just had to say thank you so much for your uplifting and heart felt post. I so agree with you. It's so wonderful to see moms blessed by HOD. :D I feel the same way. Your post lifted me up. Contentment and peace they are hard to find are they not but when you do they are wonderful to cherish. We have found that also in HOD. :D I look forward to sharing the HOD journey with you. We did Bigger last year and it was just such a blessing. The character and application of the Word we say in our children was just such a blessing. So happy to see it shining through for your too with your child. How blessed you are to have found it your first year. :D Thanks for sharing it was wonderful to read your post!

Thank you for rejoicing with me, Water2Wine! It's wonderful to have forum friends to share these moments with along the way. I have read many of your posts, as I have been lurking for awhile, and have enjoyed your encouragements and positive attitude.

My sister introduced me to HOD this past summer. I was overjoyed to find this treasure! One of my main goals with home education was to reach my child's heart...not just her head. I want to experience those faith growing moments with her. This curriculum is a wonderful vehicle for that purpose.

Thank you again for your encouragement :D

My goal as well. I want to know when I stand before God that He will know that I taught them not just Who He is but that they were guided to know Him intimately. In the end nothing else matters more than that. HOD really partners with me on that goal. I can tell from your post you are going to have that blessing as well. I thank you for your sweetness in your words and I really look forward to getting to know you and hear about the blessings along the way. It's wonderful to meet the like minded moms that HOD draws. I'm looking forward to getting to know you :D and sharing this blessing!

Happy2BHome,

Thank you for the privilege of peeking inside your home at some of your favorite moments so far with your daughter as you share Bigger Hearts. We count it a privilege to be invited into your home and to support you as you endeavor to train your child up in the Lord. :D

The Lord blesses us with moms just like you who encourage us in our call too! Thank you for the glimpse. It fueled my tired mommy fire tonight!

P.S. I loved the title of your thread. What a visualization!

Blessings,
Carrie
