I remember reading somewhere on here about using audiobooks along with the printed books to develop reading skills. Just wondering if you would choose a book slightly above child's reading level? Any good book suggestions for this for a 3rd grade girl who reads at a fairly average level for her grade?
I will be using the Level 2 book pack for her with DITHR. She could do level 3 but she's been in a reading slump this summer so I'd like to build her confidence and interest. I think she read books last year in 2nd grade that were a bit of a stretch (like Sign of the Beaver) and her reading out loud really needs some work. But since these DITHR books will be easy books for her i thought I might challenge her a little with the audio and print book combo while I work with her brother.
I'd love to hear any ideas or thoughts about this

Also, where are some good places to buy audiobooks at reasonable prices?

We use the libaray and I will often get the book on audio for storytime. I sit with them, or we rest on the floor together as we listen to that chapter. It helped my younger son keep up with it. I will also, often, get the books we didn't choose from storytime to just listen to in the car for pleasure. The stories are so good!!!!

I heard Borders was doing a fire sale on the whole series of Narina on cd.
We have to use books on tape for my dd's therapy to increase comprehension, I just let her pick. since she not really reading it but passively listening and looking at the pictures. She's picked all age lvls she reads at a 6th grade lvl but comprehends at a 2nd grade lvl and 3rd grade lvl books seem to delight her the most.
We use the library I try to avoid the cassettes tho as they seem to have the most damage. but the cd/s and the playaway players (just add batteries and headphones). (ask your librarian). and I have the option to listen to stories on line via the library.
and you can listen to free stories or for a small fee download to mp3 player from here
