*How do I schedule Beyond as a 4-day schedule to use w/CTC??

Post by Mamochka5 » Fri Aug 14, 2009 9:59 am

Hi!

We're planning to begin in 2 weeks with CTC, Beyond, and LHTH. (We've actually already begun LHTH). CTC is written as a four day schedule, which we need to do with ALL of the programs b/c we are in a Classical Conversations group all day on Tuesdays. LHTH is easy enough to make 4-day by adding the work from Day 5 to an earlier day. This works fine for us. I need help figuring out how to make Beyond a 4-day program with a 7 and 5 y.o. dd. Do we just go in order and the "days" end up falling on different days of the week all year? Or do we double up on the first 4 days? I'm afraid that will make the days too long. I'm debating b/c I like the idea of the girls knowing, for example, "Today is Monday. It's grammar day." Gives them a better idea of what to expect/look forward to on certain days. Or maybe that doesn't matter. (??)

Any suggestions??? :?

Thanks,
Liz

We are doing Beyond 4 days a week, but we school year round. We'll just keep doing it till we're done, then start Bigger.

As long as you are fine with Day 1 NOT being on Monday most of the time, then it's no big deal!

We have not started Beyond yet but I am in the same mindset of wanting it to be a 4 day program. Our fifth day is going to be for character, Bible and something very near and dear to my heart...sewing and a mini chef school (something I am making up  ) Here is what I decided. I decided we would combine days 4 and 5 together. We will not double the math, LA and just let that be the one thing they do Friday am. If an art or Geography item falls over to Friday that is fine as well. But we will get the bulk of it done on Thurs and I think just the math and LA will spill over. That's the plan for us for now. I will be interested to see what others say. :D

We are doing Beyond as a four day program. However, we will just continue it until it's done (not having day 1 on Monday each week). In fact, we will start next week with Monday being Day 5. Then the week after Monday will be Day 4, etc. By doing it for four days and dropping a day of work it adds ~9 weeks onto the program.

We are doing a program similiar to CC where one day a week we are outside the home taking classes. When we are on break I plan to do five days those weeks just to keep some sort of flow and not have a day of willy-nilly. :D Kids would take total advantage of that one!

Good luck!

I have the same issue with Bigger and CTC. I'm just going to have Bigger go into the next school year or we'll keep schooling over the summer (whatever works out when we get closer to that time).

We are debating this as well. However, I do not want to add 8.5 more weeks onto our year. I use the 5th day as a school day. We either take classes, go to the park, etc. so it does count. The only way I can, in good faith, make Beyond and Bigger a 4 day program is to double up on the work one day a week. The easiest way is to add Friday's work to Thursday, because the notebooking and timeline activities are generally shorter than the other days' work. I haven't decided yet.

We did Beyond last year as a 4 day program. I got the Post-It removable tabs and labeled them for each box and put them on the right side of the current page. Each day we would complete 2 extra boxes. I kept track of where we were with the post it tabs. By doing 2 extra boxes each day we were able to complete all 5 days in 4. I moved the appropriate tab as we completed a box.

Here is another thread that might be helpful as well. :D viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1287
