My CTC teachers guide Came Today!!!

Post by swymm89 » Thu Aug 06, 2009 2:34 pm

I'm so excited! :) Darlin Daughter age 11 already started going thru the student notebook pages and made a project. She's my craft queen.

So i'm going thru, making notes, and wondering if there is a good way to do some of the history & boy & girl interest reading even if they don't quite overlap exactly. That way my son will be exposed to some of the girl interests which he would refuse :( to do otherwise.

School starts for us on August 17. I'm looking forward to the best year yet. My only question now is how to keep records. NC doesn't require other than attendance, but w/ them being in 6th & 7th I need to be more diligent. I do have homeschool tracker plus and hate it. ( at least last year i did) may try it again. Anyone ever used it w/ HOD or have anyother suggestions??

I do have a pda that I could input and beam to the kids, but I really want something on paper. I like being able to check off and so do they.

Hi Susan,
I really don't have any advice for your record keeping, but I did want to make a suggestion for using HOD with Homeschool Tracker plus. I purchased this last year mainly to get used to using it for our upcoming high school years, so I'm not using it to it's full potential currently. But as for entering HOD assignments into Tracker, I just make up simple assignments for each guide. So for Preparing last year, I made a 5 day lesson plan that was easy to enter and populate the database with. I just entered Unit 1, Day 1; Unit 1, Day 2; Unit 1, Day 3, Unit 1, Day 4, Unit 1, Day 5 (Study Hall/Extras); I used the page/less/chap and auto increment option. Use the custom drop box to type in "Unit 1, Day" and auto increment for 1 - 4 (or 5 as I did for an extra day) and it will populate either 4 or 5 days at a time. It's still a bit time consuming, but not nearly as much as trying to input all the details in. I do it this way, so that my children can have a printed assignment sheet when they need one. I enter separate lesson plans for our Math, English and Reading with lesson # and page numbers, but for Bible, History, Science, etc... I just use the main Unit *, Day * format without details.

I don't know if this helps or not, but just a suggestion.
Take care,
Charlene

I'm so glad you got your CTC guide! I still need to get mine, but I'm making myself wait. I know once I have it in hand I won't be able to wait to start, and I'm supposed to be getting a lot more done before we start! (House projects and cleaning are not nearly as fun as teaching HOD. :? ).

Oh, Susan - I feel a kinship with you! I love to make and check off lists. I've even been known to write things on my "to do" list I've already done, just for the pure satisfaction of then immediately crossing them off. I filled this checking off need by checking off each box in the HOD guide as I did them. My equally list loving ds picked up on this habit and now checks of his independent boxes in the guide himself. :D Here's another list I used last year to check off our progress:

It's a simple list, but I counted out the units to be sure we'd finish on time, and it worked out well. HTH!

Yeah!! We got ours today! I absolutely love the NB'ing pages! I even encouraged my dd to start the left side today. She was little apprehensive and balked a bit at the research questions. I had to gently lead her that the answers were simple and didn't require a page long reply. As she worked I actually saw her begin to relax. I realize now just how tense she's been about doing school work.

I am looking foward to watching the joy of learning return to our household!

Ooh, I'm so excited that some of you have your CTC guides in hand! :D I'm thrilled that you like the Student Notebook pages. I think that they will be a beautiful keepsake for years to come.

I am not patient at waiting either, so I pray that each of your guides hurry up. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
