Prov. 2:3-5 in the first week of Bigger
Prov. 2:3-5 in the first week of Bigger
This is a long passage (longer than most of the others). I think memorizing it won't be difficult but can any of you Bigger veterans explain how you tackled the Bible verse copywork for that week? There is absolutely no way my 7yo is going to write all three verses in one sitting, especially not the first week back to school.
I was going to have him copy one line a day of the poetry selection but should I have him concentrate on copying those Bible verses instead? Breaking them down over the course of the week? Or should I just copy most of it for him and have him do one verse?

Hi Daisy! It seems like yesterday that Wyatt was 7 yo doing BHFHG, and soon Riley will be doing it - where DOES the time go?!? He didn't balk at the writing of it, but he always liked to write. With Riley, if there is more writing, I have him break it up. I wanted him to have a written copy of his Bible verses already in Beyond (which is one of the ways to share it each week anyway), so I had him copy a line or 2 of his Bible verse first thing in the morning last year. Then, I had him copy a line (or two) of his poetry later in the school day. This seemed to work well for him. It's so neat for them to have a copy of their verse in their own handwriting. Wyatt still has his from Beyond and Bigger in his special little photo binder. If he needs a verse for something, he pulls that out and flips through it to find his favorites. It's always surprising to him to see how BIG he wrote back then. I think either breaking it up like that or you just writing a portion of it for him would work.

Julie

Well...my son is 10 doing Bigger, so I am no help. He had no problem with it.

We focused first on memorizing the big ones and second focus on writing. I think your idea of writing a bit of it each day is a good one. We do our verses in a card file binder so maybe he could start it and each day continue where he left off until he gets it done. But to me the big thing was first do we understand the verse and how it applies to us and what we are learning. Then would be memorizing it followed by writing it. That's just how we do it. You have good instincts. I would go with your gut. The program will still flow wonderful no matter how you custom fit it to your children.
All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. Isaiah 54:13

We start 1/2 speed tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes with my boys, but it may be a couple of days until I have them write it.

My 7 and 9 year old copied the verse today. I needed something they could do without me. The 9 year old said it was his favorite part of school; the 7 year old did not, but he didn't complain. If he had, I just would have spread it out over 2-3 days. By the way, we started 1/2 speed, and there was no poetry copywork. We did Rod and Staff on the whiteboard.

That's funny. We started 1/2 speed as well and I had my 7 and 9 year olds write out the verses - one each on an index card. My 7 year old took FOREVER to do it, but she didnt' complain and it was really neat . I'm going to get them out later and have them read the 1st verse a few times out loud. Having fun!!8arrows wrote:My 7 and 9 year old copied the verse today. I needed something they could do without me.
