Spelling Dictation Questions

LEVEL 2 DICTATION SAMPLES:
2
Sue can sing and play.
Sam does not like to sing.
cot got jot pot
dot hot lot rot

We are currently working on level 2 and my ds does really well with it but my dd gets all panicky when it comes to the last part with the rhyming words. Should I just dictate two words at a time to her? My ds tried to teach her how he does it. He just remembers the first letter of the words like in the above for cot got jot pot, he remembers cgjp. That didn't work for her either. She does get them right but it is confusing for her.

The children who did not study
their lessons last year are sorry
now. Are you one of these lazy
children?

So when we get to this level how do I dictate this? The manual says to dictate one phrase at a time.

So does that mean I stop at the end of the line of words just as written?
Like this:
The children who did not study stop
their lessons last year are sorry stop
now. Are you one of these lazy stop
children? stop

Should I do it sentence by sentence?

Or separate it a few words at a time?
Like this:
The children who stop
did not study stop
their lessons last year stop
are sorry now. stop
Are you stop
one of these stop
lazy children? stop

I consider the words beneath the passage to be optional extras (useful for enrichment or for extra practice if needed). So, if they are confusing your daughter, just drop that portion and focus on the dictation passages solely instead.

I dictated the words at the bottom of the passage 2 or 3 at a time. I didn't make Grant remember them from looking it over.

I would probably dictate the other passage you mentioned like this:

The children who did not study their lessons last year (stop)
are sorry now. (stop)
Are you one of these lazy children? (stop)

...But you could sure stop more frequently if it works for your kids better. (Last year was my 1st year with dictation. ) Grant is very strong on auditory things, too.
