Science in Preparing...question about storing information

I see in Preparing the Science section has the student making a notebook entry (unlined pages are suggested), writing answers to questions (lined pages are suggested), and conducting an experiment and logging it in a notebook (unlined pages) or on a lab form (which would be placed in a binder I suppose).

So, my question for all you experienced user of Preparing is:

What method did you find you and your student liked best for storing this information?

I was thinking of using an unlined sketchbook for Science, but then we would need a separate notebook or paper to answer the questions on lined paper. And, if we chose to use the lab form, those would be separate from the sketchbook also. I think I would prefer something that keeps all of the science together.

Did you find you preferred using the lab form for the experiments or simply logging it into a notebook?

Would a sketchbook that uses half blank/half lined paper work? Or would the notebook entry and the answer to the questions not all fit well together on one page?

We use a binder with page protectors. I just have a big stack of notebook paper and typing paper nearby, and all science work goes in there in order. That way it's all together.

My kids like using the Lab form sheet. We have been using a 3-ring binder with page protectors. On the day they answer questions they just do that in a spiral notebook and take out the page at the perforation and put it in the protector. For the notebooking page they use plain computer paper.

I am thinking I will use a binder with computer paper for the drawings and loose leaf paper for the writing. Then, just have her slip them into the page protectors in the science binder when complete. That way she can use the lab forms too if she wants and put them in the binder also.

Do you all think that sounds like a good idea?

Hi Terri! This is exactly what we are using! I found some of these notebooks on sale recently at an art supply store. I see that you had also asked about Miller Pad & Paper - They carry 1/2 lined 1/2 blank pages in all sized notebooks. I like this style very much as it creates a very "neat & tidy" presentation of one concept. However, using blank pages & then adding your notebook page next and combining them all in page protectors in a binder is a good thing too you just use more pages of paper... I say, whatever fits your style and your budget! Have fun with it!
