Hi! We've decided to do CTC with our 10 y.o. Yeah! Thanks for all the advice. My dh was happy about my ds working independently on some sections, so that made me feel better.
I read the CTC Intro on this site and have a question. I'm trying to figure out which notebooks, etc. to buy. The Bible Study section mentions a "Common Place Book" and says to look under "Reading About History." I looked there...about 5 times....and don't see anything. I may be blind, but I just don't see it mentioned or explained there?! So.....what is a Common Place Book exactly and what do I buy for it???
Thank you !!

Liz

LOL. Same here. I'm interested in knowing if it is just going to contain the Bible verses or if other things will be entered into it?

Here's a quote from Preparing where the Common Place book is described...
Students also need a Common Place Book for their copywork. A
Common Place Book is often a bound composition book with lined pages. It
provides a common place to copy anything that is timeless, memorable, or
worthy of rereading. It is for copying text and not for original writing. Bible
verses, classic poetry, and passages from excellent literature with beautiful or
vivid wording are often included. Students will add to the Common Place
Book throughout the year.
I'm pretty sure that in Preparing, the students are told what to copy into their Common Place book. I'm not sure if this is the case in CTC, too. Eventually though, I think the idea is that the kids will decide what is worth copying down to remember and look back at later from their reading.
Here's another thread from today about where to look for a Common Place book...

Ah! You ladies don't miss a thing do you!?! I caught that sam omission, blessedly before CTC went to the printer, so the CTC guide does explain what a Common Place Book is (just like Kathleen described). However, I haven't gotten the online Introduction updated to reflect that last change we made prior to sending the book to press!
Blessings,
Carrie
