Singapore Math....
Singapore Math....
I am thinking of using the Singapore math, but am wondering about there being enough exercises. Do any of you supplement with something else, and if so, what do you use?
Thanks!!

At this point I do not supplement however I have heard that there is a schedule online that matches the singapore topics to miquon math. Miquon only goes up to grade 3 though. I have also heard that singapore has challenging word problems as well that can be used for added practice. As far as drilling the facts, they expect that to be done orally, separately from the workbooks.

My oldest, who is now 12 and in 6th grade, has been using Singapore since he was in 1st. My 9 year old (soon to be 10) 4th grade dd has used Singapore all along and my 6 year old dd in 1st is starting out with it. We have never supplemented with any other math programs. Now, that said, I would possibly consider doing some form of drill work on math facts, but that is all I have seen that might be necessary. (but we have not done it)
Singapore has review work running throughout and I have found it to be quite thorough. At least for my kids.

We are using Singapore 2 and 3, and use no supplements-there is enough review for my girls, they are learning so much and so well! I do use Schoolhouse Rock to review math facts (multiplication tables), because I'm a singer, and my kids like to sing, too
I think the Singapore company sells additional practice books, but I've never tried them.
Wanted to add that the hands-on activities in the Heart of Dakota guides make teaching (and learning) the concepts a real pleasure

We've also not found it necessary to supplement Singapore with more practice. We do sing our "Skip Counting Songs" though because I love to sing, and it's any easy way to get familiar with the times tables early on. We do also do some flashcard practice. Beyond that, we do Singapore as written.

Kathleen,
We use "The Skip Count Kids" Bible Heroes version, which my boys have all loved. Here is the link: http://www.skipcountkid.com/

Hi Kathleen - I just wanted to say that I think that Singapore is enough on its own, especially with the great hands-on activities in HOD. We have added flashcards, but that is all. I'm quite a "mathie" too - so I'm not easily pleased with math. I think Singapore is deceptively "deeper" than it appears. I also have become a firm believer in "less is more". No need to do 100 math problems if dc have already done 15 completely correct! Just my 2 cents!

Carrie,
Thanks for the songs! I love to sing with my kids! I remember...vaguely ...singing fun songs in my 3rd grade class with multiplication. I think I'll have to check these out.
