How many clear plastic page protectors needed for Preparing
I have two kids doing Preparing this year. I was planning on purchasing a 3-ring binder for each child. I was going to divide it into 2 sections History and Science (for their history and science notebooking and drawings). About how many page protectors would I need per child? How many entries are put in a week in each of the sections? Thanks!

This depends...Are your children doing the Independent History box or the Extension Pack? They will need more if they are doing Ind Hist because of Draw & Write. My ds is doing extensions. He has used 4 protectors in our first 2 units. My dd is doing Ind Hist. She has used 7 protectors. They are mixing Science and History together so far with 2 sheets in each page protector back-to-back. Also, it will vary because sometimes your History Art Project will fit in a binder and sometimes it won't. Unit 1 was a coat of arms that didn't fit. Unit 2 had one warm/cool collage and one painting of a rainbow and both fit in the binder. My kiddos are just putting pages that fit in there as they go. I have a huge binder with lots of page protectors in it left over from last years homeschool that I will use if we run out so I haven't really kept track.
You might also want some spiral bound notebooks with lined paper for your Common Place book, R&S English book, Spelling Dictation, and Written Narrations.
My kiddos each have their own notebooks for each one of these subjects. I would like to have had the money to buy a nice Journal type book for their Common Place book to make it seem more special so if you can get your hands on one of these you might like that.
Sorry I can't be more precise about the amounts for you. I do know that Science has needed exactly 1 each week for the notebooking page on day 1 and the Lab report on day 4 (back-to-back). Perhaps someone who has gotten further with Preparing can give you a little more help.

My dd is using the extensions and will probably want to do the Draw Write Through History drawings with her brother, who is using the independent history package. Thanks for your help. I did buy a bunch of 1-subject notebooks for .05 each the other day (24 to be exact). Today at Walmart we purchased a composition book on sale for .70 for each of the children for their common place book. I am just trying to think of everything else that I will need. Thanks for your help!

We bought the megapack of them from Office Max - I think it was the "economy" pack with like 200 for $15 or so. That has lasted us a long time - but we don't put everything in it. I let my dc choose their favorites and make sure I put in any I really wanted in there too.

So Julie, you do not put all of the notebook entries into his notebook or just in the page protectors? Sorry for such a silly question. I was just curious. I thought that all of the Science and History notebooking went into a binder or some kind of notebook. Thanks!

I think most people do it that way. I started letting my ds choose which things were most special for him to have as a keepsake. We hang the projects on the fridge for a week (in a BIG magnetized clip), so Daddy can see them. Then, at the end of each week, he takes them down and puts the ones he wants to keep in his 3 ring binder. We do not live in a state where I need to turn in his portfolio, so I'm fine with letting him choose what's important to him to keep. If I did live in a state that required a portfolio, I'd have him keep it all.playschool wrote:So Julie, you do not put all of the notebook entries into his notebook or just in the page protectors?
