CTC, Writing, DITHOR and R&S 5....

Post by butterfly113 » Tue Jul 07, 2009 9:58 am

I see in the sample layout of Creation to Christ writing is begun with Writing with the best I. Is this writing program (Vol I) used over one year or two years?

Also, is DITHOR scheduled 3 days as well?

And R&S English 5... How many days per week is it scheduled? Will R&S ENG 5 be completed in one year of CTC???

THanks!

Good morning, Butterfly! I am getting very excited to begin CTC with my ds. Doesn't Write with the Best look great? That is scheduled to take 1 year, so Write with the Best will be completed by the end of CTC.

DITHOR is scheduled 3 days a week, which was such a nice pace last year in PHFHG, so I'm looking forward to that pace again in CTC.

Both R & S 4 and 5 are scheduled half-speed in CTC, so they will be done 3 days a week. The second of each of these will be scheduled in the guide following CTC. After that, dc will either go half-speed or full-speed - depending on their age - so dc can complete R & S 6 by Grade 8. :D

My 3 Sons,

I thank you so much for answering all my questions!

Would it be ok for them to complete R&S 5 in CTC, instead of half? Can the lessons for R&S 5 (CTC) be completed mostly orally and some written as recommended in Preparing? OR, should there be more written out for each lesson in level 5? I realize that there will also be the Write with the Best writing assignments as well, yet had hoped for ds to complete one R&S level each year through level 10 in 10th grade, and then study more literature/composition in 11th and 12th... Hope this makes sense!

Your ds definitely could complete Level 5 in a year. At the pace of a complete lesson 4 days a week, he should be able to finish it (give or take a few lessons). I do think it can be done orally, on markerboard, and then the rest on paper. We do about a 1/3, 1/3, and a 1/3 of each for a lesson. We start with the oral questions in the teacher's guide. Then, for each section, we do a little over half to 2/3 of it in a combination of orally and on markerboard, and the last 1/3 or so of each section he does on paper. Everyone has different goals for grammar - and my dear - yours is aggressive  (have you seen R & S 10 ). However, that would work out just fine, and I totally respect your grammar gusto. Sounds like a good plan for your goals! Just remember, if it gets to be too much, you can always back off and do some of the years half-speed. HTH! :D
