I have one daughter doing CTC with the extensions. Her brothers are doing Bigger (without extensions). So, obviously I don't think it is strange to do the program with extensions for one child.

8arrows,
Hope i didn't offend...maybe I chose the wrong word :? I assume since your dd is doing CtC with Extensions that she is 6th or 7th grade, so that would be the logical choice. I was thinking about a younger child who fits (based on age and ability) into an existing HOD program but would need extensions for a younger program even though there is not a younger sibling sharing that program.
Time for me to let this thread rest and wait to make future decisions down the road. I was really just on a tangent of trying to sort out what to do during the younger years if you school 4 days a week but the HOD programs are made for 5 days a week.
Blessings,

Thanks for your encouraging words...I'm beginning to feel like you (and so many other kind ladies on this board) are old friends :D
Just one question about skipping Bigger. I can totally see what you are saying about Bigger being important! The more I look at the manual I am just amazed at the beautiful way in which important skills are woven into this program in such an enjoyable way. But if I were to have ds (turned 6 in the spring, going into 1st grade) do all of LHFHG, BLHFHG and BHFHG (all of which are 5 day programs) just 4 days a week it would would take about 3 3/4 school years. So he would be doing Preparing in 5th grade, which is fine but then I'd need to add Extensions even though he would be the only one doing the program, which seems a bit unusual. Am I correct that usually extensions are to bump up the level for older when combining 2 dc? Would it be better to skip Beyond? Or should i have skipped LHFHG (which fits so perfectly right now)? What about skipping Bigger (if he's alredy listened in a bit) but adding R&S 2 and Cheerful Cursive during his 3rd grade year while finishing Beyond?
Thanks again! I don't want to ask so many questions that I become a pest, but I am a planning kind of gal

P.S.I just received my copy of the GHILLM devotional book...it looks so great! I'm trying to make myself wait to really start it until we begin school, since it looks like the perfect way to begin my mornings during our school year. I may have to have dh hide it until late August
Hi there, old friend! I feel the same way, this board is full of my dearest friends - people I can share my homeschooling, faith, good days, and insecurities with so easily. You are not a pest at all - and I too am a planning sort of gal, so ask away, and we'll all try to help you figure it out. :D Extensions are to make a guide appropriate for those ages of dc, so ladies do this for many reasons - for 1 child, or for combining dc. So that would be fine, and once you get to PHFHG, that is a 4 day plan. :D Technically, you wouldn't have to do the extension because he'd be 6 + 3 3/4 years old = 9 and 3/4 years old, right? I hope my math is on track here. :) So, he would fit in the target age range for PHFHG of 8-10 years old. You could decide at that point if you wanted him to do the extensions then or not, depending on your goals for him at that point. I hope this makes sense! :) I'm so glad you got your devotional, and I pray it draws you closer to God and starts your day with hope.

In Christ,
Julie :D

8arrows - How are you doing? Has life slowed down since we spoke at the fair? Both Carrie and I thought it was great to meet you. How's the new place? I hope you are settling in and doing well. As always, I think your plan for your dc is still a super one - you are doing a wonderful job with your precious dc. I wish I'd gotten to meet your older dc, but maybe another year. Hopefully they sold some of that used curriculum and made a bundle. :D

three great kids--Oh, I am a pretty hard-to-offend kind of gal. I was just trying to reassure you that your plan would be fine. . Sometimes I guess I just make my answers to short to get the whole point across. And yes, my daughter will be in 6th.

Julie--Yes, just last week life started to be more normal again. We are in the new house and basically unpacked. Thus, we are on to swimming lessons! We sold over 400 dollars of used curriculum (What does that say about my collection?!) Next year you can meet Elaine as she will be old enough to attend. Well, maybe. I think my niece's wedding is that weekend. It was so fun to meet you.

For all the rest of the board--Meeting Carrie, Julie, and some other ladies from the board was an added bonus to conference this year. It is so much fun to add faces to names. I also received the HOD items I ordered SO FAST!! The booth was really well attended. I haven't decided on a restart date yet for the new scool year. I might start Elaine on DITHOR, math, and English (since CTC won't be here yet.) after swimming lessons. I have already started LHTH as Faith begs for school. And Bigger, I'll just have to decide.

Wow - you made a killing with your used sales - either your dc must be good with sales, or you had a lot of stuff, hmmm? I bet it's a combination of those two things. :D I'm so glad you are getting settled, and I hope swimming lessons are going well. We'll be doing that in January again. It's one of those indoor things we do in the dead of winter to keep up with our boys "need for speed" . Plus, my dh is around more during winter, since it's sandwiched between his outdoor sports of fishing/hunting and his work with spring conventions and pheasant guiding. Swimming is always a C-R-A-Z-Y time around here. I hope it's a slower pace for you and your dc. I'd love to meet Elaine, and that's too cute Faith had to start LHTH now. How fun to just focus on the little one - something I have trouble doing. I've decided to start Emmett on LHTH too, though not until I've gotten into a good rhythm with CTC and Beyond, since he's pretty young. The little guy is begging for time with me, and I'm better about giving it when it's planned with LHTH.
