Another cheer for HOD - from an evaluator!

Post by lmercon » Fri Jun 12, 2009 8:36 am

My sil was scared to death about her first evaluation with her son. This is her first year hsing him. She used HOD this year. The evaluator, who has been in the hsing circles for many years, hadn't heard of it. She seemed okay with the literature approach but wanted my sil to bring all his quizzes and tests, etc. UHOH! Anyway, my sil and her ds went last night for the eval. The evaluator was impressed with his enthusiasm and ability to discuss what he had learned. When she asked what he had learned in Bible, he told her, "character traits." He went on to talk about things like bravery and how Andrew Jackson showed bravery when he went into battle with infections, etc. She was so impressed that she asked my sil if she could make copies of a few pages of her HOD manual so that she could learn a little more about the program. Anyway, I thought I would share the story and give some encouragement to any moms facing end-of-the-year evaluations.

Good ole' PA! Toughest hs state in the land. I take heart that if I can do it here, I can do it anywhere - except maybe Germany!

Good to know that HOD passes the test in PA since that's where we're living for now.

My heart goes out to you ladies in PA - it is amazing how each state's requirements vary from one another. Showing the HOD portfolio should impress any evaluator, I would think. I've done it with the dc, and I'm still amazed at it when I look back at those binders we've made with HOD. Also, happy dc must make an evaluator's heart as merry as they do ours! :D

lmercon,

I'm so happy to hear your sister-in-law's evaluator meeting went well. :D Testing and evaluation time fills most of us with nervous energy, however we hear nothing but good reports with HOD from evaluators in states all across the nation. :D I loved your sister-in-laws examples that her son shared about Andrew Jackson. I remember those same things from reading about Jackson in the Eggleston books. What an amazing and stubborn man, he was! :D

We write our guide with with the Lord, the family, and then state standards ever in mind. We place our Lord first in all things, knowing He will honor us if we do.

Thanks for sharing! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
