The Singing Bible in LHTH

Post by krismoose » Sat Jun 06, 2009 8:27 am

We're just a couple of weeks into LHTH and haven't purchased the Singing Bible CDs yet. What do your kids think of it? We've been singing the fingerplays (to my own made-up tune  ) and both 4.5 ds and 2.5 dd have been loving it, so we've not been lacking in the music area, but I don't want them to miss out...

It's definitely fun to have! Each of the songs goes with the theme of the week in LHTH. I usually play it while they are working on a color or cut sheet. The kids seem to really enjoy it! :D So, I would get it if you at all can! :D

While I really like the CD, my 2 boys do not seem to have any interest in it. I have them listen anyway, but they are simply giggling and goosing each other, etc., not paying any attention whatsoever to the songs or words. They love music, but don't seem really interested in these particular songs. They are 6 and just turned 5. The CD with LHFHG, however, they all love.

I kept going back and forth about whether to buy it also. I finally decided to order it because I noticed that my little one really picks up on lyrics, and I would love for her to have another way for the Bible verses to really stick. Sometimes she doesn't seem like she is paying attention, but she'll begin singing a song out of the blue later on! :)

My 2.5 yr old will ONLY do the singing Bible and play dough for school time! He will listen to the fingerplays etc for about 2 minutes, then he starts demanding HIS CD. lol We are really enjoying ours, even my 10 yr old enjoys the songs. Hope you have a great time with LHTH!

I bought this for my daughter back when you could only get it on tape (years ago when she was a toddler). I had to rebuy it when it came out on CD because the tapes had become so worn out. We ALL STILL listen to it. My children are 9yo and 7yo. HUGE hit around here. My kids already had the Books of the Bible memorized when they started Awanas. LOL. :D

Oh my goodness, we love this set! I got for my firstborn on tape and we wore the tapes out, so we got the CDs. We have listened to all 4 CDs back to back on trips to Grandma's and the kids love them. I will admit that when I am stuck on finding a particular book of the bible, I sing the sond from this set that lists them. Even my kids know the song.

Thanks everyone for your input...This message board is great :D I went ahead and ordered it. I also found some audio samples on CBD and had my son listen to them to make sure he'd be interested...my dd loves all things musical :). I also ordered the New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes. I'd been using the picture bibles we have, but it was getting tiresome to find a good picture for my daughter from one bible (not always the same one...) and then additional details for my son. Netpea, that was a great idea to listen to them on roadtrips...we're driving from AZ to CO in a couple of weeks, and new CDs are always fun for the trip!

I ordered the New Bible in Pictures too. :) We have a couple other Bibles that I could have used, but I thought it would be so nice to follow the plan and flip to the pages listed in the guide. I can't wait to get my box this week! :)

All of my kiddos have loved The Singing Bible. I always read the words to the song for the day right before I played it the first time around, so the kiddos knew what the song was about. Then, we'd march around while it was playing. :D Even my older sons loved to join in on the music part. On Fridays, I would play all of the songs that we'd done so far in LHTH while the kiddos had their afternoon playtime. They learned so much Biblical content from the songs. I have to admit I have a few of my own favorites that I love to request on Fridays from the Singing Bible too. :D

My boys have also enjoyed The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes so much. Each child ended up with his own copy, as after we finished LHTH, we allowed the kiddos to have the Bible themselves and take it to church. My sons have often taken that particular Bible along to look at when we're at the doctor's office or other appointments. It has the sweetest pictures and my boys have literally worn them out!

Enjoy!

Blessings,
Carrie

My dc and I have loved The Singing Bible! The first day I'd sing it looking at the lyrics, and they'd listen. Then, we'd play it a few more times and all sing and march around (even the itty-bitty toddler loved that :D ). We ended up listening multiple times and singing, singing, singing. The cover has fallen off of our The New Bible... too - I need to get another one! I like the pictures especially in that Bible, and yes, it is convenient to just have that Bible that is already matched every day to the HOD plans (like about 175 days' worth of plans) rather than try to look up a matching one in a different children's Bible each time. It is wonderful to just open up my guide and teach each day - ahhhhhhh, what a great way to start homeschooling! :D

I bought LHTH originally to use with my 4 & 5yr old Sunday School Class. I had ordered the Singing Bible at the same time I bought the guide. My two children are ages 12yrs (going 13) and 17 months. I started taking the Singing Bible with us in the car every where we go. My oldest has helped me come up with puppet presentations based on the first two on disc one and we are currently working together to come up with a presentation for the third song on disc one. She has successfully presented the first two songs to my Sunday School kids with great appeal! You could try using puppets or even stuffed toys or action figures/dolls and have the kiddos to act/sing out the parts of the songs. You and your child could make props to go along with the songs. Encourage them to draw pictures as they listen, imagining what it would have been like to be there when Moses was just a child. The possibilities are endless.
My youngest dd tries to sing (mostly at this point baby garble words to her own tune) to most of the songs, her favorite is the third song on disc one (the creation song) and will sing out the "yeah!" whenever she hears it!
It has been great to take in the car, because I know my kids are listening to something true, educational, and entertaining. :D
