Bigger Won

Post by Patience » Fri May 22, 2009 9:10 pm

Hubby and I discussed some more and are confident once again in the decision to keep things together with my two oldest in Bigger next year  (We've been going back and forth a little about separating the kiddos into two separate programs). I'm so excited. Now I am choosing my read aloud selections. Thanks for rejoicing with me!

Rod and Staff Story

Post by Patience » Fri May 22, 2009 9:16 pm

My kids love Rod and Staff. Well, they haven't actually done it yet. But for fun I've done the first lesson with them, to give them a taste of "English" for next year. Even later in the day the kids were having fun using incomplete sentences...It showed me that they "got it." Just yesterday, my hubby and son were playing tennis. My daughter and I were sitting on the sidelines and I was looking over the English 2 book, and started to read a lesson. I looked up and my son had completely stopped playing tennis to listen to it!

Patience,

I'm so glad that you and your hubby have come to a peaceful decision about keeping your 2 older kiddos together in Bigger Hearts. :D The wonderful thing about giving combining a good try is that you can always go on to separate later quite easily, if desired, so nothing is lost in the trying. So, we typically advise combining first if possible to see how it fits your family. When combining is a fit, it is a joy!

I think you'll find Bigger Hearts to be a terrific trip through American history. I know I learned so much about the men and women that God used to make America a new nation. The Godly character qualities that we studied throughout Bigger Hearts really helped my kiddos see what they need to work toward and how God blesses our striving to honor Him. We pray you will enjoy Bigger Hearts as much as we did!

I also agree that Rod and Staff does a terrific job of explaining English in a way that applies readily to writing and to speaking. It breaks each lesson down into wonderful bite-sized concepts and does it all in a way that glorifies the Lord. :D I have seen a big difference in my oldest son's attitude toward grammar, since our switch to Rod and Staff. He no longer dreads grammar, and because of the way it is written, knows why it is important to learn it. The focus on honoring the Lord throughout the pages changes the tone of learning grammar and resulted in a change in tone in my son in this area. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
