O/T Prayer req for Jessica Hulcy, author of KONOS

Post by dale1088 » Mon May 18, 2009 9:37 pm

She was in a terrible car accident today, her car was broadsided by a firetruck. She has very serious injuries, including collapsed lungs, broken arm, and brain trauma.

She and her husband Wade are co-authors of the KONOS curriculum. I feel like our sister in Christ and her family need our prayers!

The latest:

Jessica's Ford Explorer was broadsided in Melissa, TX about 11:30 on Monday
morning. We think she was hit by a volunteer fire truck responding to an
accident. After a 25 minute extrication process she was Life Flighted as a
level 1 (the most severe) trauma case to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

She is still in critical condition. Here is what we know so far:

1. She is still unconscious but is moving all four limbs and
attempting to pull the tubes out of her throat which is encouraging to the
doctors.

2. Major Lung trauma, punctures to both lungs. Both were collapsed.
One is now working well and they are still draining the other. Doctors are
checking for possible damage to wind pipe and trachea.

3. Head trauma. Medium amounts of blood on the brain. Closely
monitoring this to see if it improves. Surgery not necessary now, but
possible to come.

4. As of now multiple broken ribs on both sides, broken left wrist,
broken left arm in 2 places. Will require surgery. Possible broken left leg
and right wrist. She has undergone 4 hrs of X-rays, over 1000 X-rays taken
so far. They are working the broken bones in the order of most life
threatening so there is a possibility of more discovery of broken bones.

I was just about to hear her speak at our local conference in June. This just seems so tragic and terrifying. Please go hug your family.

I am glad this was posted here. We need to pray for these people that are willing to give part of their life so others can hs. I am in prayer for this family. I do not know them but I appreciate what they do and I am praying for God to intervene and bring healing for them. This is very sad!

Joyanna,

The other driver has a cracked sternum but was actually able to help get Jessica out the vehicle and get her airlifted as soon as possible to the medical facility where she is now.

The driver of the other vehicle and Jessica and her family all attend the same church and know each other well. Jessica's brain scan yesterday is presently showing no trauma to the brain and the surgeons are discussing a possible one-year recovery therapy time frame.

She is in an medically induced coma right now to keep her calm and quiet so no further injury is done to her body. They are working on a "most critical injuries first" plan of getting her injuries addressed. Currently her punctured lungs are the focal point, along with various broken bones. You can read more about her condition at www.caringbridge.org

We have had the privilege of exhibiting with Jessica's son here in Winston Salem and have been able to visit with the family and will continue to be in prayer for her well-being, knowing God is watching over them all.

Blessings,
Carrie
