Anyone used Cybershala with Singapore math?

Post by 1GirlTwinBoys » Wed May 13, 2009 7:03 am

It's an online classroom for it and the student does it twice each week for 1 hour. There is a teacher that will "teach" the child how to learn math the Singapore way I guess. It looks really interesting to me. The cost is $100/month. Was just curious if ya'll have heard of it before or used this program?

I read something about it somewhere and for some reason I had the impression it was for older students. Like maybe 5th grade and up? I could be totally wrong, but I certainly don't think you'd need it before then. The mom that was mentioning it got into it when she got to a level that she was not comfortable teaching, maybe algebra? She seemed to really like it. Hopefully some more folks will chime in with comments.

It starts at 1st grade~maybe for those parents that just are not comfortable teaching math at all, like myself!

If you use the activities Carrie has planned, you'll be an absolute pro from day 1! And save yourself $100/month!  I can relate to your fear, but trust me, it's easy!

I agree! :D Why not give the HOD activities and the Singapore workbooks a trial run of a year? Then, see how it's going, and reassess. Otherwise, if you try the $100 a month thing, you will be wondering every time you make that payment if you really could have just used the HOD plans and been just fine.

I agree with the ladies. Start with the hands on activities that Carrie has and do them a couple of times if you need to. I was very anxious to teach math myself and I am learning so much. That is the beauty of it. It is retraining my brain and making me more comfortable. Guess what you will get it quicker than the kids at this level so that will be an encouragement :D Safe your money for the later years when you get to pre-algebra and up!
