Just checking that I'm understanding correctly....
I'm going to be starting Beyond with my 1st grader....based on where she is, I'll be ordering the emerging readers set. (Done with phonics, not ready for DITHOR.)
So using the emerging readers set with what's in the Beyond guide, am I completely set for language arts? Do I need anything else?
You're good to go! Copywork, poetry, spelling, weekly grammar lesson, reading, storytime--it's all there! Great, isn't it? We've just wrapped up Unit 2, after working through LHFHG, and I love Carrie's guides. I have added in StartWrite for ds. Each unit I put in his memory verse, which he copies at the end of the week after memorizing the verse. He does this on Day 5 when copy work is not as heavy as the rest of the week. I also put in the weekly poem for copywork. We use HWT manuscript, and StartWrite has their font, so his model looks just like the letters he has learned. I also do his spelling list the same way. He cuts the words out and glues them to index cards. I love Carrie's approach to spelling! The only thing that makes me sad about HOD is that I didn't have it for my older two kids.
I did buy the Primary Journal composition book from Walmart for use for copywork. He writes a portion of his poem for the week at the bottom of each page and then draws a picture to go with the poem at the top.
