Using Beyond and Bigger for my son

With lots of help from all of you, I've pretty much nailed down my curriculum ;) :D
Jacob (just turned 8!) will do all of Beyond as is except we will add R&S 2 and we'll need spelling/dictation from Bigger also.
We are trying to figure out our math. Don't know if we'll keep doing Saxon or switch to Singapore. Math is our weakness (notice I typed "our") ha!! I have trouble with math too!

So, anyway, do ya'll have trouble keeping things organized??? This will be a switch from total textbooks for us. I'm sooo afraid I'm gonna get confused :roll:
However, Beyond and Bigger seems to be the only way to go for next year. Will we always be between two books???
Sorry, so many questions!!! I'm just having problems getting it worked out in my mind.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give this old schoolteacher of a mom! :lol:

No, you won't always be between two books. The spelling lists are in the appendix of Beyond and the Dictation starts in Bigger. If you finish all 100 passages of dictation in Bigger then you would need to get the preparing book for the next level of dictation but after that, you'd be set as Preparing and the ones after that have 3 levels of dictation in them. Also after singapore 2A/2B there aren't any more math activities, so that won't trip you up either. Take heart, it's easier than you think to use 2 manuals, you just need to get some of those redi-tabs from Post-It to mark each section.

Doesn't it feel wonderful to have a plan in place?!? :D I'm so glad you've made a decision, and I think your plan sounds great. :) I agree with, LeeAnn - it isn't hard to do, and sticky notes/redi-tabs will make this super easy. You can also get labels to color code things if you really want to go all out. :D Like, red labels for all of the Storytime read-alouds, green for all of the history books, etc. Though this is not necessary, if you are a born labeler, you would enjoy that. One simple thing that I do is have 2 tubs. 1 tub is for the books we're using right now. The other tub is for books coming up in the plans, and I also put the books we've finished using in the back of that tub. This makes it super easy to set the 1 tub for the day on the counter and grab from there. You'll be surprised how quickly you slide into this. Being a former ps teacher myself, I can feel your tension palpably :lol: - but believe me, once you start Beyond, you'll never look back! :D

It does feel good to have a plan! It also feels good to have all of you here to help me. :D

Thanks Lee Ann for your post it idea! That sounds like something I need to get and put in place. Also, the tubs Julie mentioned sound helpful. I use to use tubs in my classroom and they are very useful. Actually, they were dishpans, but they were great to throw stuff in.
Now, on to organizing! I'm glad you all can't see my house right now! You can definately tell that my heads been in the clouds!! :roll: :lol:
