Handwriting in Beyond?

Post by sharonb » Sun Apr 12, 2009 8:04 pm

I saw that Little Hearts has A Reason for Handwriting scheduled, and Bigger has cursive options. But what about Beyond? Is there a handwriting workbook for that, or is there enough practice from copywork, etc?

I had this same question a while back and was told that the copy work is sufficient and additional handwriting from a workbook isn't necessary. My kids love workbooks though so I might go ahead and order A Reason For Handwriting to go along with it. :D

We will be using Pentime 2 for handwriting with Beyond. We really love their program :)

You don't need a handwriting program with Beyond. Beyond utilizes the copy work method. The children copy lovely portions of a poem for the week. In the process my son not only copies the handwriting, but also punctuation, capitalization etc. He generally memorizes the poem (if not all of it, some of it) He also likes to draw pictures to go along with the poem. So, you get more "bang for your buck" than just using a handwriting workbook in my opinion..and we have a beautiful copy work book to show for it.
Sharon, based on reading your other posts, my recommendation to you would be to just "give yourself over" to the HOD manuals and do them as they are :D Seriously, I think you will be blessed and surprised at the treasure you will find in keeping it simple..and you will find that Carrie has already done the leg work for you so you can just enjoy teaching your children. It's hard to understand the program fully unless you get your hands on it. Will you be able to attend a conference or curriculum fair? :?:

No, I won't be able to attend any conferences/curriculum fairs. But as I said in another one of my threads, I am thinking I need to wait for now. We already have what we need for this next school year; I just need to figure out the best way to utilize everything. We are getting out of debt, and even I were to sell all of my non-HOD-needed books, I still would not have nearly enough $ to purchase HOD programs at this time (our library is VERY small, so I would not be able to rely on it for anything either).

I am considering using HOD starting in a year or so. I can fill the shopping cart now and see how much it will cost and see if it's realistic. We do set aside money from each paycheck to use for curriculum, but right now that money is mostly gone since I had JUST purchased quite a few books for history and science before I started researching HOD. I am figuring out ways to make our schooling similar to HOD (don't just read the books, discuss them. Talk about character, etc). I'm thinking I might just have "grass is greener" syndrome, BUT, if God is really leading me towards HOD curriculum, then HE will provide a way to pay for it without us having to delay getting our debt paid off.
