Do any of the programs cover the 50 states?

Post by sharonb » Sat Apr 04, 2009 6:26 pm

Until I started contemplating HOD for next year, I had planned on doing an overview of the 50 states (I have a cute book about a girl's trip through the US and it gives lots of info about each state, plus I have a state bird/flower coloring book). I don't mind still doing this as something extra, but was wondering if any of the HOD programs officially cover the states/capitals/etc.

In Bigger this year, we're making flashcards that have the states, abbreviations, and capitals on them. We've been adding to it as states join the Union. We started with the original 13 colonies, and then have added the northern and southern states that were there at the time of the Civil War.

We haven't spent a lot of time with it, so adding in something like you have may be what you want to do. I'm not sure how much of a focus on the states there will be in the later guides in modern history.

If I do go with HOD, we'll be doing Beyond and LHTH, so I think I'll go ahead and still do my own casual 50 states study as planned (read simple books and color a flag/bird/flower page, plus find the state on a map and color it). It should be fun and we'll keep it really easy at this age. They can always memorize all the capitals when they are older!

sharonb,

We will be recommending an individual state study (of your own state) to be done during one of our guides. We will most likely schedule it once weekly and recommend that you use the State Study from a Christian perspective that matches your particular state. We will also most likely schedule a 50 state study in one of our guides as well. We have several options for this that we are currently considering. These studies will most likely be scheduled within the last 2 guides of our 4 year cycle. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
