What genre for Burgess Bird Book....

Post by Lynnw » Sat Apr 04, 2009 8:03 am

What DITHOR genre would you place Burgess Bird Book, Burgess Seashore Book, and Burgess Animal Book? We are going to the beach end of May and I thought my oldest would enjoy the Seashore Book (he loved the other two). There is a lot of "non-fiction" info in these books, but they are set in a frame of animals talking to one another. I suppose that could make them fantasy - but I don't really think they fit fantasy overall.

Thanks!

Lynn,

I would consider this fiction - fantasy. I know Carrie has Charlotte's Web listed under fantasy and it is talking animals. :0)

OOPS - just realized you were referring to the Bird book, can't help you there!

Good question!

Pagoo, by Holling C. Holling, is listed as non-fiction, because it gives an accurate description of the life of a hermit crab. I think the Burgess Bird book might fall under the same category, non-fiction, because it thouroughly describes bird life. I have learned a lot about birds from reading this book. So that is my guess.

I think Charlotte's Web is a fantasy because it's a lovely and entertaining story, but I didn't really learn anything about pigs.

Anyone else?

I have both the Burgess Bird Book and the Burgess Animal Book myself. We haven't read them yet I am saving them until my dc are just a little bigger.
My guess would be non-fiction, but I am eager to see what everyone else thinks too!!

I'd go with non-fiction as there is so much factual-based content in those particular Burgess books. The other Burgess books fit best within fantasy. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
