7th and 8th graders

My 7th grader is doing Bigger with the extensions. He is doing math from CLE, and language arts from the Queen's workbook, but otherwise he does it was written.
It's probably a bit lower then his actual abilities; however, he's my "challenging student" so anything he does is an improvement over the nothing he was doing! And History really isn't a grade dependent subject such as math, so with it as the spine of the curriculum I can easily combine boys-I have the 7th grader, the 4th grader and the 3rd grader all doing Bigger.
My 9th grader is only using Drawn into the heart of reading from HOD. He's used that for about 6 or 7 years-and he begged me to keep it as his reading program for this year! How's that for a testament to the product??

I have been considering the newest level for Jake, my 15 yr old (the 9th grader) but he's just starting a new system of being more independent with his study subjects that I want to see how that goes first, before I make him change it up.

Hi Marsha,

I have a 12 yo son in HOD. He is using Preparing, but he does not do the Independent History. He is currently in 4B of Singapore and Rod and Staff Book 4. He joins in on the Storytime with his younger siblings, in lieu of the books suggested in Preparing and we're also doing a quick round of Cheerful Cursive. He began DITHOR a month ago, which is going quite well. In addition, to his HOD assignments he does the following: Rosetta Stone Spanish, Typing Instructor, daily entries in his nature journal, and helps his younger siblings with their school work. He has quite a few hobbies which he is quite passionate about - photography, managing a website and strength training, which he spends a significant amount of time on each day. Finally he does rise early and spend time on his own Bible Study. And he helps me a tremendous amount around the house and yard and with his younger siblings.

Once a month we get together with another group for nature study. And once a month we get together with another family for outreach. And once a month we get together with a family for activities guided by the Contendors handbook.

Occasionally, we do artist and composer study, but we haven't hit a groove on that enough for me to claim that it is really happening.
