I am wondering if I am missing something? Or maybe my edition of History stories for children is different than the one that Carrie used in writing the lesson plan? I have the 2007 printing edition and have to use the alternate schedule that Carrie sent with the book. History itself is not the problem. My question (I know...took me long enough to get to it right?) is that the science activity seems very random in regards to what we just read. Even the key idea. While it is still about Marin Luther, the key idea states that he wouldn't eat anything or think of anything except God. That he felt he wasn't good enough (this is a paraphrase...sorry it isn't exact).
Did I miss something or do I just not understand the connection (the latter is more probable ). Usually I get the corralation, but not this time, that happened on another day last week as well. But it is more likely just me, but on the off chance that it isn't....could someone please fill me in????
Thanks!

I think the connection comes in that we were talking about eating or not eating. The science block tells about the digestive system which is what you use when you eat. My kids were quite impressed by the activity and that they have 30 feet of intestines coiled up inside. I could be wrong of course, but that's what I thought.

I think the connection was that -Martin Luther stopped eating and the science activity was about digestion.Spiderman loved that activity
- Delighted to have used LHTH,LHFHG and Beyond, Bigger , Preparing and DITHOR
currently Using LHTH slowly with my 2 year old
Starting Bigger with my 8 y/o About to add on DITHOR
Finishing Preparing with my 12year with ASD/LD
Was the story suppossed to mention that he stopped eating? That is where it lost me.
The activity was fun and the kids thought it was cool that there was that much "stuff" in our bellys though. I guess it just would have seemed like more of a connection to me if the story had mentioned that he had stopped eating or had done a fast or something.

Unit 22-Day 1 of LHFHG has a scheduled reading from History for Little Pilgrims instead of from History Stories for Children. So, I think you read the wrong book. The History for Little Pilgrims story does mention Luther stopped eating and became very thin, so it goes well with the science lesson.
Unit 22-Day 2 has a scheduled reading from History Stories for Children that is also about Luther, so I think you got the wrong reading on the wrong day!
I have afunny story along those lines.... My dh, got up before me one day recently and decided that he would just jump right in do school, he had heard me go on and on as to how easy school is, so he thought, "why not??" Well, when I woke up 1/2 hour later he proudly showed me that he was doing school and i said, Great!" and asked my dd what she had learned so far and she told me all about George Washington, well we were studying the early explorers, sooooo that wasn't right! He had ignored my hand written notes referring to the alternate schedule for History Stories for Children and read the wrong story. We all laughed and started over and he learned a simple lesson, find out what we are doing before jumping in and don't ignore my notes!!

Oh my gosh I have done this a few times. My kids make fun of me. I know when there is not a connection I have read the wrong thing. I just say "well now that was an interesting side trip" and then we read the correct thing. I know instantly I have done it when it does not connect. It's not like it is not clear my mind just goes on autopilot sometimes. So you are not alone. The good thing is you can tell it did not connect and there is a problem. With other programs lots of times I was reading the right thing and still did not get the connection.

That is exactly what would happen to me in the haste of getting books to read, before the baby needs a diaper change etc. etc .. So I make my schedule the Sunday before and put only the books I need in a bin. It has worked great so far and it does take some extra time, but it's worth it for me. Even with my schedule I sometimes forget to do something and have to come back to it later. How about easily being distracted!
