Singapore Math: In what level is borrowing taught?
Just wanted to know what level this is introduced in and how quickly it progresses. At what level are they teaching borrowing not just from the tens but from the hundreds as well as the tens in the same problem? What level is the whole concept of borrowing introduced? Is it taught differently than the traditional way?

Level 2A. We just got to it. It's about mid-way through 2A. I don't think it's taught in an untraditional way. There seems to be a pretty good amount of practice although i am supplementing with my own practice pages because my dd is not quite getting it as clearly as I'd like.

Re: Singapore Math: In what level is borrowing taught?
I think borrowing just from tens starts in 1B, then borrowing from 10s and 100s in 2A...my dd had so much trouble with this in our other math program and when we used the hands-on activity in the HOD plans, it clicked! I'd say it's traditional in the sense that there's not many different ways to teach the steps of that concept, but it's untraditional in the sense that Singapore gives the WHY behind it. For my dd, knowing why she was slashing those numbers and changing them made all the difference...she's actually MOVING numbers, not just changing them. Carrie's hands-on plans are incredible for these tough concepts! And I love the scope and sequence of Singapore even if it is different than the norm.

Thank you! That helps me to know that if my ds starts out in Singapore 2A he will have all of this reviewed and maybe in a more understandable way. Thanks for the insight.
