What Math programs do you use for older students?

Post by playschool » Mon Mar 02, 2009 12:30 pm

I know Singapore is recommended for HOD. My dc is coming from another curr. and is older (going to be in 6th) and would not acclamate well at this age to a different method of math instruction. She is used to a more traditional approach to math and I am afraid to move her to Singapore at this age would just frustrate her. For those of you who moved over from other curr. recently and have older dc, what do you use for math. She is currently using Abeka which works fine for her but without the DVD teacher next year teaching it to her I believe it will be much more difficult and I am not the best of help when it comes to math. What is working well with your dc and using HOD at the same time? Thanks!

We are currently using BJU Math for my 5th grader and 2nd grader. We have used it with and without the DVD. If Abeka is working well for you, I would just continue using it. I bet you will be just fine teaching it yourself. Abeka does offer curriculum guides that tell you everything to cover for a lesson. :D

I believe you can just order math by itself in dvd's starting in the seventh grade.

I have one who is doing grand with Saxon math and the DIVE cd. The student that I really hoped Saxon would work for. .. well, it's not going so well. I'm switching that student to Paradigm Accelerated Education math (Pacworks).
