? re: extension pack read out louds

I apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere but I did not find it on a search. I am planning at starting HOD at Bigger combining my four kids( ages 8,9,11,12). I am planning on ordering the extension package for the older two. My question is do I still order the deluxe read out louds or just read the extension to all of them? I did see that some of them duplicated (like Ben and Me, By The Great Horn). I also see that we have already some of the choices so I know that I won't order any complete set(classic, boy or girl) but would pick from each one to make our own set. My second ? is if you do purchase from the deluxe as well as the extension do you read both choices to all the kids or divide them up? Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any guidance you send my way. Yes, you would still do the storytime readings. We are using most of the extension books as read alouds with my 8yo and 6yo. We read storytime boxes for Little Hearts and Bigger, then read the chapters from the extension books. We aren't using the Exploring Planet Earth or Child's story of America though, just the stories.

The extension pack reading is meant to be for the older students to do on their own. (Some moms do read then aloud though if they want to and have the time and $ to get them. Just thought you might want to know that it's actually scheduled to be done independently by the older kids joining you in Bigger. ) When you get your Bigger manual, you'll see that in the appendix there are 4 choices listed for each genre for storytime. Or you are free to pick your own book for each genre. The plans there are really flexible! And it's so much fun. You don't want to skip storytime!! :D And because you're doing short readings to make the book last 20 days...it only takes us about 10 min to do per day. (It's my son's favorite part of our day! :D )

Am I a selfish Mom???? I want to read all of those books myself! Usually, my hubby and I take turns reading out loud to our kids at night. We are now reading Miracle on Maple Hill. I haven't asked him to take his turn because I don't want to miss anything. I have a feeling that with the HOD stuff we will be reading a lot outloud to each other.

That's not selfish - that's great!!! :D I know what you mean - my ds could read ahead on his own (especially when our toddler has some type of a disaster  ), but we don't like to miss our Storytime together for anything - and a lot of it has to do with the fact that I haven't always read the HOD books we're reading, and I'm dying to know what happens next! I wish I'd had great books like this to read as a child. It's a wonder I became an avid reader at all, considering some of the sub-par material I read at school as a kid.
