New Here

Post by Patience » Fri Jan 16, 2009 9:38 pm

I just wanted to say hello. I am seriously considering coming over from MFW Adventures starting Monday. My mind is in a tizzy as I consider what to do. I happen to own HOD already and so when I went down to look at it, I began to like the more thorough treatment of the events, as well as the idea of possibly doing it again in a biographical way next year. I have been wrestling with going to MFW ECC next year, thinking it might not be the best fit...Also, the bible in HOD is very appealing to me. I love the way Carrie has written it so thoughtfully to help the child think about the passages. So I am digging into the message board to get more info. I am quite happy with the language arts recommendations from MFW (Primary Language Lessons) and spelling is going great (Spelling Power), so you know how it is to try to configure in your mind what to do. Well, I'm going to go by Patience, because I need more of it with my kids, but it's not my real name. My kids are 8 year old girl (almost 9), 6 year old boy (almost 7) and almost 3 year old girl. My daughter is a great reader, my son has not yet taken off, but we're doing well with Reading Made Easy. One question I have is science. I think my kids would really enjoy more information with science than is offered. Just so you know, I am not a big fan of supplementing...it's hard enough just to do what's on the page, but I just purchased some God's Design Books for them. Any suggestions here would be appreciated.

Hello Patience! Welcome to the HOD boards. I love your handle as that is something I need more of myself. I am assuming you have Beyond...based on your post. Do you have any other guides or are you planning on keeping them together in the same guide? I do know that in Bigger and Preparing they do daily science but others who use those particular guides will be better able to help. The nice thing about HOD is that you can use your own language arts and spelling and still have the curriculum function just as it was written. It really makes it easier on families to find the right fit and still have a plan to follow. :D I just wanted to say welcome!

Thanks for asking. Actually, I already own BEyond, and DITHOR, and the DITHOR 2nd/3rd grade workbook. I had used BEYOND only minimally for the poetry last year, but don't mind repeating this if need be. I have my two oldest children doing MFW Adventures right now, and so if I switch, ideally I'd like to keep them both together since BEYOND covers the same material -we'd just pick up with BEYOND where we leave off MFW. Does this make sense? This would be a very natural transition I think in terms of history at least. And thanks for saying hello!
