We're new here! (and I have a ??)

Post by thehergatts » Thu Jan 01, 2009 10:16 am

Hi! My name is Kristy and I just found this message board. I purchased LHTH last spring, but did not start it this fall with my son. I will be starting it next week and I am REALLY excited! I plan to start LHFHG in the fall once we finish LHTH.

My question is
Do you normally take 2 years to do LHFHG or 1 year? Or is it something that is just different for everyone?

I also have a soon to be 3 year old and I plan to start LHTH with him in the fall, too.

I have had a great time reading on here this morning. (I will have to set my timer from now on so I don't get distracted!!! LOL)

Thanks!
Kristy

Hi! And welcome to HOD...you made a VERY WISE decision coming here!!! :)

I have a 5 and just turned 7 year old and I combine them both using LHFHG this year (K & 1st) and we plan on completing the book in one year. At least for us, it is NOT too hard for my 5 year old, nor too easy for my 7 year old. Next year we'll be doing Beyond for 1st and 2nd grade!

Hope that helps!

Kristy,

Welcome to HOD it is great to have you here!
I think most of us here need to set a timer for use during our HOD Forum visits, as it can become so easy to hang out here with all of the wonderful ladies!!! :D

We will be spending one year with LHFHG, so I think each family utilizes the programs in a way that works best for them. So, I would agree with you that it is indeed something that is different for everyone.

Enjoy LHTH, it is an incredible and memorable program.

Happy New Year,
Candice :D

:D :D Welcome, Kristy! :D :D

It's nice to meet you! I know that you're going to love LHTH...because I sure am! I've not used LHFHG yet, but I'm going to be ready in the fall with my 5 yo. I think that most moms just jump in and go the pace that works with their child. I think it's usually pretty easy to tell if doing the whole day's plans per day or half is a good fit. Sometimes, I know that moms opt to go with only half the plans because of the rest of the family's schedule for the year, too. So as a time factor they may only do half the plans with a 5 yo if they have several other children that they're schooling.

Have fun!

I plan on doing it next year with my 6yr. who has a LD and taking it for two years with him unless he seems like he is getting it much faster than I thought he might. I will also be doing a ds9 and dd 7 next year and my other ones will just tag along my 4 yrs. will probably do LHFHG to for fun!

Wanted to just say welcome! You are going to love it! LHFHG is written to be done in a year but it is flexible enough to slow it down if you need to do so. I am using it with two little ones ages 4 and 6 and I have found it is working very well to work between the two age groups. I have run it slower at times for my 4 year old and still been able to use the appendix to beef it up for the 6 year old while we did that. It's very flexible. So you will be able to use it however you want. It works really well to do the left side then one day then the right side the next day if you want it to last for longer.

Enjoy your first day and welcome! :D

Hi and welcome to the boards! I started LHTH with my little guy this past fall when he was 3. Since he is on the younger side and I don't want to get to the upper guides too early, we are taking 1 1/2 years to do Little Hands and then I plan to take another 1 1/2 years to Little Hearts which will have us finishing at the end of his kindergarten year. Then we'll be on track to do the other guides 1 per year unless he needs to slow down for some reason. There are lots of different ways you can work it out though. You just need to figure out what works best for you and your kiddos!

Kristy,

I just wanted to welcome you to the HOD boards! The ladies here are so gracious with their time and wonderful at encouraging one another. We're glad to have you here too. :D

As far as LHFHG and LHTH go, at our house we have done both programs at full speed (with my second son), and then at half-speed (with my third son). The programs work both ways. I agree that you'll be able to tell which way suits your kiddo best once you get underway.

I will say that when we used the guides at full-speed with my second son, he was on the upper age range of the guides. When we used the guides at half-speed with my third son, he was on the lowest age range of the guides...so that can make a difference. As he grew up, we were able to move from doing LHFHG at half-speed to doing it at full-speed this year. Now, both my kiddos are using their current guides at full-speed and are both in the middle age range of the guides. We take each year as it comes and assess what would be the best fit for that year.

Blessings,
Carrie
