It's the Variety!!

Post by Tiffini » Fri Dec 12, 2008 3:23 pm

Yes, I am on a posting spree right now! I finally have some catch-up time! :D

One thing I meant to mention earlier - it's the variety!! I love the variety! I love how everything is changing up all the time - the books we read, the activities, the lessons, the art, the vocab, the geography, the poems, the character traits. This component of HOD is one that is the most crucial for me personally. There are a lot of God-honoring curriculae out there (praise God!), but the variety is one thing that is usually missing. I have used some great stuff before (my favorite before HOD being MFW), but, as a stay-at-home mom who homeschools and doesn't get out a whole lot (anyone relate? ), I have craved variety in my daily life. HOD helps me so much in knowing that when I get ready each morning to start school, I won't be doing the exact same thing as yesterday. I look forward to the new things that we will learn and experience each day. Just had to share! :D

Yep! I agree! But what makes it actually WORK is the fact that there is clear direction given in each and every project/activity, and the materials really are common household items! I have found other curriculums that advertised "variety" to be a total pain in the neck b/c either there was not enough direction, or you spent hours each week running all over town tracking down little doo dads to do the activities. Or the projects were too involved/messy, and the tendancy in that case was to just skip it.

It's amazing how Carrie has been able to fill up 5 plus guides with so many DOABLE activities! I love it. There is no guess work, or trying to be creative, Carrie has done it all for me!! :D

Tiffini,

I totally hear ya' on the variety! Who wants to get up every morning and have "eggs and bacon" all of the time (okay, more like Cheerios and bananas around here!)? No way, not me or my sweet daughter, I love variety and HOD serves it up daily! :D

Tiffini - I need the variety too - it keeps things fresh and fun. I am at home the majority of the time too, and HOD makes it fun to do school. I'm so thankful my days are not filled with mundane things. Each day has new "surprises" in HOD, for me and the dc, and we all enjoy that so much. Thanks for sharing here!!!

I agree that variety is the spice of life. I love rotating things throughout the plans so that we cover many more areas than would ever be possible if we did everything every day. Yet, I don't have to figure out how to get it all in once the guide's in hand. I can just pick it up and teach. I desperately need that just like the rest of you. :D

Thanks for sharing! The variety is one of the things that keeps my homeschool day exciting from year-to-year. 8)

Blessings,
Carrie
