Rod and Staff English or Language Lessons for the Very Young
Which one does the authors of HOD recommend more? Why?

Hi playschool.
I believe Carrie recommends Rod and Staff English if you are using the Heart of Dakota Guides. The Language Lessons series is very good but has poetry, copywork, and dictation, mixed in with the grammar. Since HOD already covers these things in their guides, they suggest Rod and Staff for Grammar beginning in Bigger Hearts. If you are using just Drawn into the Heart of Reading and not a full HOD program, then either R&S or the Language Lessons would be fine. Hope this helps.

Ditto to what Allison said!
We are really enjoying R & S, btw. We do about 2/3 of it orally. I've found my ds has excellent retention with it, it doesn't take forever to do, he likes it, and it is God honoring. Those are the top reasons our family enjoys it.
