Music for the new ancients guide is ...

Post by Carrie » Fri Nov 21, 2008 8:10 pm

Ladies,

I am also very excited about the music CD for our "Hearts for Him Through Time: Creation to Christ" guide (which IS the title for our new ancients guide)! :D

The kiddos will be memorizing all of Philippians 2 during their quiet time, adding a verse a week until the entire chapter is committed to memory. There are 30 verses in Philippians 2, so it will be a steady progression to learn the whole thing. Since this will be an independent assignment, we kept the pace slow and constant. The music CD has 7 songs that sing Phil. 2 word for word. The music style is varied in keeping with the mood of the various parts of the passage. It does have some drums and is very upbeat in parts and very worshipful in others. The quality of the music is excellent. The version of the CD is in the NIV. All of us at our house have been singing the songs all week! Here is a link to the website of the publishers of the CD: http://www.tbsis.com/philippians2.htm

There is a study that also goes along with Philippians 2 that we won't be using, as it is targeted at adults and is pretty weighty. However, we are thrilled with the music and excited to have almost all of the resources for our newest guide in place. Only the science remains not completely settled. We hope to have those decisions done soon as well. We're just waiting on samples of some brand new products in the science area to consider.

Blessings,
Carrie

What beautiful music! Hurray. I enjoyed so much this morning listening to the music. I really am excited about the mission of the women who created this cd to enhance meditation on scripture through music AND it is created by musicians! I think you're on a roll here...

I got to listen to the entire CD, and it is so neat! Out of the many, many CD's Carrie listened to and poured over, this one was the only one I felt was God-honoring to the meaning of each separate part of the Scripture. There were many other Scripture CD's that every song sounded exactly the same, and that makes is so difficult to memorize entire passages. Not to mention, it does not change styles to match appropriate emotions we have as we read what's really going on in the Scriptures.

On this CD, for instance, as I envisioned Paul writing his letter to Timothy, the song was appropriately loving, showing the deep appreciation Paul had for Timothy, and the closeness of their friendship through good and bad times. Likewise, on the parts of the Scripture that were about Jesus' death on the cross, the song sounded full of wonder, grace, and awe about what Jesus chose to do for us! On parts of Scripture that were meant to be encouraging, the songs are appropriately upbeat and cheerful - though never in a "rocking out" kind of way. I was able to begin memorizing portions of that Scripture immediately, simply because of the way each song brings to mind a new thing to appreciate about what the passage is really about - and I am actually not very good at memorizing Scripture to be honest. My ds having done HOD from the start, is almost 9 yo and when we work on memorizing the PHFHG Scriptures together, he has them down by the second day, and I need until the fourth day. I am really good at the Hide Em in Your Heart ones I do with Riley though! :D (Probably because I've done them twice now with 2 of my dc!).

Thanks for all of the time and consideration you put into this choice Carrie - it is so evident that Christ really is at the heart of every decision you're making, and that puts Him in the "forefront" of the hearts of our dc too! :)

In Christ,
Julie :D

Wow! :D Carrie, I think we've mentioned it lately, but THANK YOU for all your hard work in prayerfully putting together this great curriculum for us to use in teaching and training our kids' hearts and minds! :D I'm not even sure where you come up with all the things you must go over...except that God is leading you as you do this for Him!

I think the music sounds great! I'm excited to "see" the future that I'll get to experience with my kids! Thanks for the "sneak peek".

Ladies,

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the sneak peek into the music for Hearts for Him Through Time (our new ancients guide). We had a tough time deciding what the kiddos should memorize and also how much for this new guide. We finally settled on one lengthy passage, rather than several shorter passages.

We also decided that since this was going to be scheduled as an independent skill (during their independent Bible Study time), the memorizing quanitity would need to be scaled back a bit from what was previously scheduled in our guides (when we were doing that portion with the students each day). Any time a skill goes toward being more independent, there is a needed down-sizing in order for the skill to really be able to be done WELL independently. :D

However, we're very excited that the daily Bible readings scheduled all year to go through the Old Testament and New Testament stories will really get kiddos deep into their Bibles and into the habit of a daily quiet time. 8)

Thanks for taking time to peek at the new music! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Carrie -

This sounds great. :D I had read the thread about Bible, but I didn't know this was the plan. I would love to hear more about your Bible plan - when you have a chance :D

I continue to be delighted by every decision you make on the new guide.
