Anybody here doing LHFHG?

Post by SoaringEagle » Tue Sep 23, 2008 1:36 pm

I am now waiting for the 5 books to complete the package and then we'll start. Probably next week if it comes before next Monday that is. We'll still do our BJU math. I am excited and hoping my dd will be too. I am truly hoping this is a better fit for us and will be able to stay with it for a few years. It is disappointing that the other program didn't work since I was waiting 2-3 yrs before starting it. I guess I'm not as hands-on person as I thought. LHFHG looks like I'll be able to do it and not feel overwhelmed.

Just wondering who else is doing this program...

We are using it now. We started on it last year and are continuing this year. I have a 4 year old and a 6 year old using it. We love it! I think you will find it is a lot of fun without being heavily teacher prep intensive. You really just open and go. My girls love it. Let us know how your first week goes when you get it. There are others I know using it here. We also do some of the books in the appendix because we sometimes do just one side a day to stretch it out a bit for my 4 year old but still interest my six year old. There is so much in the appendix. It is great! :D I know you are going to love it!

Hi
We have just started this week using LHFHG. I have a 4 and nearly 6 year old, and they are LOVING IT!!! and so am I. I can't believe how easy and fun it is. Every night this week I have felt excited to look over the next days lessons. I have felt myself waking up and really looking forward to the day, as I know what I am doing in terms of school. My 1 year old even joins in with some activities (like the rhymes in motion) the girls laugh their heads off at (with)him.

It has been so exciting when my husband gets home from work, as the girls are so excited to show him their school work, so it feel like it is involving the whole family!! My husband was shaking his head is utter surprise and disbelief when my 5 year old recited the whole memory verse after just 2 days. He is so excited that we are "hiding" God's word in their little hearts. My husband was also really impressed that they knew the names of the continents, and a animal from each one, just by singing a funny little song (We were both laughing, as we had forgotten them, since school, so our geography is also having a "reminder")

Anyway, just thought I would share :D

Hope to keep updated with how your family is going.

Love Deb

P.S We are about to have school holidays over here in Australia, but everyone wants to keep going over the break!!
The great thing is, I feel like we can, and still have heaps of time for other fun holiday activities (my husband is a high school teacher, so he is around in the holidays too. YIPPPEEEE!!!)
Loving, living and learning at home.

We just finished Unit 2 and will start Unit 3 on Monday. We are going on vacation so I didn't want to start a new week then have to stop in the middle of it. I know, I need to relax more and realize that Day 1 does not have to be Monday and Day 2 does not have to be Tuesday, but hey, that's how I was built! LOL!!! Anyway, we are having a lot of fun! Even my almost 8 year old gets in on the rhymes in motion.

I have to check out the appendix!!! Thanks for the tip water2wine!!!

We have been working on Unit 4 this week. MY 5 and 3 year old are loving LHFHG, as am I. It is so easy for me to prepare each day, and I don't feel overwhelmed if we skip a day. It is very easy to combine and do a 4 day schedule.
Thanks for posting this thread. I have been wondering who else was in this book too.

Good to know that it works with a 4-day schedule. Every 2nd Friday we have co-op so we don't do school on that day.

Julie we are doing it on a four day schedule as well. It works great. We just don't think of the days corresponding to the unit numbers. It flows really well that way. You will have no problem. :D

We are using LHFHG for our almost 6 year old. We are all loving it and usually don't having complaints about doing schoolwork. I love that it only takes a few hours a day so we still have time to other activities. We usually end up at the zoo once a week after her schoolwork is completed. She has a hard time understanding why her friends have to be in school all day since she is only in school a couple of hours.

Hi! We are using LHFHG, and are on Unit 4. The kids and I are loving it. I'm using it for a Kindergartner and 2 1st graders. My older kids (BHFHG) join in for what they like from LHFHG too, such as the story time read aloud and some of the Rhymes in Motion. They also loved the game with "Mother May I" using their white boards to write numbers (from Unit 3). The Kinder ds had to do numbers 1-10, the 1st graders did numbers 1-20, and the 3rd and 4th graders had to write their numbers as Roman numerals. Great game - everybody enjoyed it! and we could play it at each child's level! (My 4 year old refuses to participate, but he does LHTH when he wants to - and goes to actual Preschool 3 mornings a week.)

We're using LHFHG this year with my just turned 6 year old. We started it at half speed last year, when he had just turned 5. Now, he's ready for the whole day every day, so we're bumping up to full speed. It's amazing how much my little guy has grown and changed from when we started LHFHG last year! :D

Last year, he was so wired all of the time and had a tough time sitting at all! He seemed much spacier with the readings, and I often wondered if he was taking them in. But then, he would share something out of the blue, and I could see he was retaining much more than I thought (very CM style).

Now, he knows more of what is expected is more prepared to retell or discuss. His motor skills are getting better too. I just wanted to encourage all of you who are just beginning with LHFHG that when you step back and look back over your year, your little ones will grow and gain much more than you can see in the day-to-day! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

We're just finishing up LHFHG this year, and then we'll be starting Beyond... next. We also went half-speed with LHFHG for the first 4 months. My middle ds is a very busy little guy, always on the move, and it took him a bit to be able to really learn to listen carefully to what I was reading to him. It is fun to think back over the past year and how far he has come. He listens quite well now, and he can recollect much more than he used to be able to do. He learns his Bible verse more quickly and loves to share it with others. He also learns the Fingerplay and its actions by the second or third day. We've really enjoyed LHFHG, and it has done a super job of getting my ds ready for Beyond... ! I know you and your family will make many special memories with LHFHG as well! :D

In Christ,
Julie :)

My 5-year-old and I are going through LHFHG and he loves the science activities and the math activities. He is a very hands on little boy, so the cotton ball cloud experiment and the foil boats were a real hit. After "school time" was over, he would stay at the sink and keep doing those 2 activities. I am loving the clear instructions and layout for each day. Even though I have a very active, high energy child, I have been so delighted to see him LOVING to snuggle up in my oversized armchair to read. He is totally engrossed in the tale of Reddy Fox and keeps wanting to read the next chapter right away instead of waiting for the next day. His handwriting skills are improving just in the 4 weeks we have been working through the curriculum. It seems to be very well thought out and cohesive, which I really like. It's neat to be able to make connections within our lesson time as well as throughout the day just living life. Thank you for making this so user friendly! I've been telling all of my mom friends interested in homeschooling about it. Lisa

Lisa,

I'm so glad to hear that you're off to a great start with LHFHG! It sounds like your little guy is thriving! :D I

If you get a chance, you may wish to pop over to the Main Board too as that is where all posts begin and all board traffic is found. We pray that LHFHG will continue to bless your family this year!

Blessings,
Carrie
