Preparing...who else is new to HOD??

Post by 1handful » Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:08 pm

Okay, I FINALLY did IT...switched curriculum after 4 years, knocked my 5th grader off of completing the planned 4 year history cycle in 8th grade and dropped some major $$$ with the click of a mouse. ALSO, I did IT(placed my order) on AUG 27...weeks after I usually start school. Someone please convince me that I haven't lost my mind

I'd love to hear from some of the moms who made a similiar decision this year...I know you are out there b/c your previous posts helped me take this "risk". I felt REALLY good until the VISA fraud detector call came in (for large internet transaction  )

I'm new to HOD too and using Preparing with my oldest son. I learned about HOD last year, and I SO SO SO regret not putting my son into Bigger last year. Oh, how much time I wasted.

Glad you are here. You will love Preparing. Just ease into if you are having problems. The only thing that has taken us awhile is the vocab. Everything else is so easy-peasy, fun, educational...

LOVE IT!!!

I am new to HOD..... our boys 6 & 5 in LHFHG.

I haven't taken the plunge for our dd who is 5th grade. I want to though. I didn't find HOD till AFTER we had her curriculum for this year. :?

I know you will love it. It flows so well for us with the littles.

I did something similar. I have always just put together my own curriculum (I am eclectic) and was following the 4 year cycel. I discovered HOD back in Feb, (wish so much I had discovered it last summer, Bigger would have been perfect for last year) bought LHTH in April and did the last few weeks of school with it with my younger boys. I had my oldest daughter right on track with finishing the 4 year cycle in 8th grade (she's in 5th now) and had bought MFW CtG, a curriculum I had always wanted to use, in April (I always get my curric around tax time) . I was planning on LHFHG for this year with my boys and I kept reading the board, and looking at my catalog and looking at Preparing and praying and finally a couple of weeks ago I sold my dream curriculum (which for some reason I wasn't as excited about using as I normally would) and bought PHFHG which seems to be a much better fit for us both this year (although I think MFW would have worked this year too, but not in future years) and am very much looking forward to see how the Lord leads Carrie for next years curriculum (I am already liking some of the selections they are consindering).

We started Preparing this week and although we are having the usual adjusting period we are very happy with it.

I'm not new to HOD, but I am new to using Preparing..., and we are loving it! It's hard to explain, but the way the stories are told in Grandpa's Box, and also in The True Story of Noah's Ark, makes the stories my son has heard and knows well, new and refreshing. In fact, I'M loving reading them because they are having the same effect on me. Also, the skills he is learning are ones I know he'll need forever, and I feel they are paving the way for so many necessary steps to becoming a young capable man. We're just finishing the first week, but I can tell we'll enjoy this year of school as much as we enjoyed doing Bigger... last year. Rest assured, you made a good purchase, and now it's time for you to reap the reward!!! Enjoy! And welcome to the board!!!

In Christ,
