I really haven't looked at Italic. I decided on ARFH because I liked that it only has a few lines each day...that fits my dc. And, I love (and knew they would too!) the way Day 5 has them writing the verse, then decorating the border and giving it away. They have had such fun with that. :P

I know in later years Carrie suggests Cheerful Cursive, so you may also want to look into that. We had already ordered ARFH, so I'm sticking with it for this year, but may switch in the future if it seems necessary. HTH

This will show you samples of each one.

I choose Handwritting because I liked the pictures and that (along with the teachers guide) it brings God into it by discussing creatures of God's creation. I also liked how they teach about the top, middle, bottom lines as being part of the "tree house" so you can say "bring the line from the roofline to the floor" and they know to go from the top line to the bottom line.

We have used ARFH with our older children, and were happy with it. I liked that the children were writing Bible verses each week. The children liked having a cute picture to color, too. We displayed our finished verses on our dining room wall for a week till the next one was done, so we had some nice artwork as well.

I definitely plan on using it with our little boys as well!

We chose Italic because the transition to cursive is easy and it looks neat. Those were two things we did not get with R&S (probably because I was not teaching it heavy but also was not sticking for my kids). I knew also that I wanted to use Startwrite with whatever we picked. So I let my leftie try what was on startwrite and Italic came easy. Plus I like the way it looks. :D
