Prayers for my son in Preparing

Post by rumkimom » Fri Sep 30, 2016 5:25 am

Morning all,

Thus far our starting of the year has been a little rough as I am trying to figure out a schedule that works for us. We are going 1/2 speed right now as I try to figure it all out (my son could go full speed but needs me and I have one in Beyond and R2R as well). Anyway, we are currently in Unit 3 due to me getting sick for almost 2 weeks (sigh) and we took most of one week off and are trying to get back into things. Now though we will come to another slow-down as my son in preparing (Steven, age 10) has surgery on Tues, Oct 4.

Steven was born with a cleft palate. The plastic surgeon that did his last 2 surgeries retired so we have a new Dr. Since she did not do the last surgery, she does not know what kind of tissue is in his nose (nasal tissue or palate tissue) she does not know what she is doing until she starts. She will either replace the tissue so that it is nasal tissue or if it is nasal tissue, she will do the bone graph (we are hoping she can do the bone graph or he will have to have that surgery after this one heals up). Please pray for Steven to be calm (he is really nervous about this surgery as he sort of remembers the other ones and they hurt) and that all goes well. We will be taking 2 days off of school for the surgery and I do not know how many more days off for his healing. This will affect his speech and much of our work is oral. Also please pray that his brother (age 8 ) understands and is not trying to do all sorts of rough play with him (which they both usually like!).

Thanks so much!!

I am lifting up both of your boys now. I pray that God be with your oldest and comfort him. I pray that they are able to do the bone graph instead of replacing the tissue. And I pray that the younger son be gentle and encouragement to his older brother. In Jesus name, Amen.

Thanks Daneale. Unfortunately, they were not able to do the bone graph, so he will have that surgery sometime in the spring now (and another week off of school). He is liking that he got this week off of school. We did read his history yesterday, but he claims is was just fun reading and not schoolwork. LOL We will start up with him again on Monday (we are doing half speed for now in Preparing...hopefully we can soon work up to full speed or at least finishing a unit in 5 days instead of 4). He is having a hard time with the fact that he can only drink liquids for the next 6 days yet....lots of milk (with protein powder in it), veggie juice and broth. He is tired of it already and it has been only 1 day. sigh.....

Thankfully my other 2 were able to do schoolwork with dad on the 2 days we were at the hospital. :)

I am sorry to read that your son will need to go through another surgery. That sounds terrible. But at least your other kids were able to get some stuff done will your son was in the hospital.

And that is so funny that he doesn't view you reading his history as school LOL. I am pretty sure my kids don't either. They love when I read to them and they love these books!

Thanks for sharing about your son, and I have prayed for him, and for you as the loving mama too! It is so hard to see our kiddos go through hardships - we often wish as mamas we could just go through it for them. But much character comes from going through hardships! Your family is pulling together and rallying around him, and that must make our Lord so proud of you all. I love doing a countdown to something fun when we are going through a tough time! Maybe you can have big sheets numbered 6 down to 5 as a countdown, have him crumple one up each day at the close of the day with gusto! Boys do love that. :D Then, maybe a fun food to eat at the end of it all? Like his favorite meal, maybe? The way to a man's heart is said to be his stomach; I find the same to be true for my boys - which is probably why this is tough on your sweet son! Anyway, just a few ideas you can just forget if they don't appeal. Praying!!!

Love in Christ,
Julie
