Starting a bit late....

Post by jackieb » Sat Mar 26, 2016 5:37 pm

Hello families!
I have been on this forum for a bit now, but really need some help with deciding. We've used a hodge-podge of different curriculum for my children this past year, and we really want to find something to stick with. I've looked and read about HOD for the past couple of years, so it's time to see if this will fit for us. My homeschooling children will be in 7th, 10th, and 12th grades this fall. We are currently finishing up with Early American to around 1850. My youngest ds is begging to do Medieval History this fall, so I thought RtR might be a good fit for him in 7th (according to the placement chart). My main concern are my 2 high school daughters. My eldest will still need the remaining credit for American History and government for 12th, and my 10th grade daughter still needs World History, the second half of American, and Economics/Government. Since we have not used HOD, I am concerned that moving into it at this point might not be a good idea, unless there is a way to do MTMM for both. I know that I could possibly beef it up for my 10th grade dd, buy what about my 12th dd? In reading the update on the US2 guide, I'm thinking it might be too much of a learning curve for her at this point.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope my questions make sense. ;-)

I understand...it is the reason when I switched over last year I choose not to switch my 12th grader as well. She needed government, economics and health this year. The switched would have been too hard on her. I would call HOD and talk to them to see if it is something she could handle or not.

My 14 year old I started in RtR and she likes most of it but it was a tough switch for her (she has some learning problems) and we still are not able to complete a full unit in a week (we are aiming for getting it done in 5 days instead of 4, but thus far we are getting it done in 6 days). She is doing Algebra with it instead of the math listed.

Thank you for your suggestions and sharing with me, rumkimom! That is what I was thinking for my 12th grade dd, since this would definitely be a big learning curve for her. I am sad that she will miss the richness of this, though. I am going to call HOD this week and ask for their feedback. They are probably the ones who will know right off the bat. Thanks again!
