Yes...she is a good reader, good comprehension! Is DITHOR something we can start later? I really just want to get going with what we have and maybe add it later.....

Is there a place to get used HOD stuff?

You can start DITHOR later.

As for used, you will probably have a hard time. As you may or may not know, this company has not been around that long. Carrie is writing each level in conjunction with her second son using it. Therefore, the CTC level has not been out more than 6-7 years. But HOD will work with you on a payment plan if you wish. In addition, if money is really tight, you can always buy your manual from them directly and then look for the actual books elsewhere, however you then run the risk of page numbers not matching up with the TM because some books are different editions.

Kim,

I had posted yesterday only to realize today that I had not seen the entire thread! So, I apologize to anyone reading this thread, as I'm sure you were all confused. I have removed my previous post, which was a request for a information which had already been provided, as I missed the whole second page of dialogue on the thread!

I will say now that from reading everything that was shared, I can see CTC being a good overall fit. The discussion about DITHR sounds right on to me as well! :D

I will keep a few of the questions I'd asked earlier, as some of it still pertains. So, as we look at grammar and writing, if you don't mind sharing, could you mention what your daughter has used for grammar and writing in the past? Even if she has had very little instruction in these areas it would help us to know that too.

Next, if you can share whether she has been reading her own science materials, and what those materials were (just to give us some gage as to how independent she is in this area and what level she is used to reading on her own)? If she hasn't read science on her own, it would help to know that too. :D

It would also help to know if she is used to following written directions on her own and how independent she has been with her work in the past. If these are weak areas it would help to know that too. :D

Last, as she is heading into high school, if you have any thoughts as to whether she is college-bound or what her thoughts after high school might be that would help too. As we advise families with students headed into high school, we do unfortunately have to have an idea of what we are trying to prepare them for after graduation. Students who are not college-bound or who may be bound for a two-year degree have more latitude in their requirements than those who are headed for a 4 year degree. We just want to do everything we can to help your daughter be prepared for what God has in store for her. :D

If you don't feel comfortable sharing these things on the board, please give us a call at 605-428-4068 and we can talk through these things with you on the telephone instead. You will need to leave your name and number on the Heart of Dakota message system, and then we will give you a call back. :D

I know we can work through your questions and talk through placement to find the best fit. You are doing a terrific job of thinking ahead for your daughter now, so with some thought and prayer we can find the fit you are seeking for her. And, if for some reason the fit isn't right after you begin and try, we can always tweak that too! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Hi,

I did call and leave a message but basically very little Easy Grammar, 5th grade level, not much at all. Ummm..can't remember the other question..ha! She has not done any "formal" literature study. Reads books for pleasure, lots.

I have another question if someone could help. I just looked at the list of supplies from the front for painting and wow....okay, so.....did anyone go anywhere specific to get those supplies. Is it mainly the paint supplies needed.

Ugh...I don't know what most of that is, only have a walmart and hoppy lobby but only go there every 2 weeks or so...

Thanks,

Kim

I got all of my stuff at hobby lobby except for the paint, I ordered that online at United Art & Education. However, I have heard of other people getting their paint at hobby lobby and it worked just fine. Just take your supply list into the store and they can help you out. I bought 11x15 sized paper. I also purchased a 48 page portfolio thing to hold my dd's paintings. Many people have gotten paint brush sets and those have worked fine. I did end up buying each brush individually based on size. It added up quickly but I really liked the brushes and they are still in great shape.
