Fine Arts Credit

We need one credit here in Fine Arts. If my son only does the half credit of Fine Arts in the World History guide, would the credit he has in photography cover the remaining requirement?

I would say yes. My son's other half credit is in Musical Theater.

Thanks! I am trying to cut out anything unnecessary for this kid. He is taking 2 outside classes, running on our very competitive cross country team, and participating actively in a photography club, among other activities (volunteering, A/V ministry, etc). It will help to cut out the art projects if he doesn't need them. Whew! What a relief!

Now I'm wondering if he even needs the half credit of art history in WH. He has a solid full credit in photography. He has also learned photo editing, as well as video and audio editing, using several programs. Anyone have info on this? Thanks for any advice!

It may depend on your state. Usually fine arts is Art Appreciation, Music Appreciation, theatre/drama. We have to have a credit of Fine Arts too. I'm going to use the World History art and then the Music Appreciation that we're doing this year in RevtoRev. (my son will be 14 in Dec., so we're going to go ahead and add a few things and use it as a credit). I don't know if you have that guide or not, but you might consider doing some music.

In everything I am finding photography is a fine art credit. It is considered visual arts in the same category as art history. In fact in the art history video's that they watch in World History they give the definition of fine arts and I know it had something to do with visual art. You could check your state for sure, but I know in Ohio and Indiana photography qualifies as a fine arts credit.

The Fine Arts credit in the WH guide was a blast! I highly recommend it. My non-artsy son and my very artsy nephew both loved it! The projects were fresh, fun, and had clear directions. Pat Knepley is a Christian lady that just has an incredible knack for teaching art! Her dynamic personality and projects paired with Barry Stebbing's "God and the History of Art" were a terrific pairing. The Art Gallery Notebook, Short Lessons in Art History, and Exercises/Activities definitely included higher level thinking and provided an easy way to correct work and assign a grade for me. I am looking forward to doing it years down the road with my next ds, and he's already told me, he can't wait to do it.
