This week we did almost complete my goal of 3 full days of Bigger & LHFHG along with ½ days of RtR…I got 2 ½ days of Bigger done in 3 days instead of 3 as we started out half way though a lesson. As I suspected we did not get much done the day dad was home and then again the day we had to go to the orthodontist (gone from 9:30-1:00 due to where they are located and a long appointment). We did get RtR done 4 of 5 days. I was hoping next week would be better but Monday is a holiday (my husband is taking the boys to the county fair), my husband has Wed off and we have our first monthly co-op on Friday morning….so maybe we will get 3 days done (and 4 half pace days for Rtr?).

This week…..

My oldest (16) completed her sewing project (dress that she wore to the fair today) and started her College level Art History course. Next week she will start the rest of her schoolwork. She works mostly on her own. When my Bigger son does his experiments and tell about them, Emily remember when she did them (7 years ago!!).

RtR with my 14 year old daughter – We got in 4 half pace days and they went well. We are now on day 1 of Unit 2. She is learning what is expected of her and is doing much better than she did the first week. She was able to do most of the research on her own this week and did most of the postcard writing as well. She likes that she gets to pick what boxes she wants to do and also what order to do them in. Narration is hard for her. Yesterday she was able to remember whom the passage was about and where he went. Goal for next week is to add one more item that she can remember. It will be slow going with her, but that is OK. We were also able to stay mostly within the time suggested (another of our goals).

Bigger with my 9 year old son – We were able to complete 2 full days and one partial one. I had hoped for more completed but things came up and I just could not get more done with him. He very much enjoyed both science ‘experiments” and had to tell dad about them as soon as dad got home. He loves the ERs (we read Wagon Wheels this week). He is delayed in math, but he found his work easy this week and did a lot more than I would have required of him (finished one of his ACE books in just a few days). I am glad that he finally does not dread math. The art project was fun (we used a white crayon instead of wax paper) but he was disappointed that the fish did not stand out as much after the paper dried.

LHFHG with my 7 year old son – we were able to complete 3 full days. He was happy to be back doing schoolwork after a break last week. We just started Unit 5. He loves to roll the ball back and forth during music time (and he usually has to ‘bump’ it with his head….LOL). He also likes that he can do some of the science stuff with his brother. I do not want to let him do all of it as he will be in that book in 2 years.

Megan - it was great reading about your week. My little guy (age 7) also had the hardest time remembering the symbols for 6-9....he finally got them figured out about 2 weeks ago. He is also having a hard time remembering the sounds of each of the letter so we are taking a short break from phonics.
