She's READING!

Post by MomtoJGJE » Thu Aug 13, 2015 10:31 am

Quick backstory... I've never taught my kids to read. My oldest just didn't get phonics and started reading when I took a break from it because she and I both were in tears every day we worked on it. My second started reading over Christmas break after slightly less of a struggle with phonics. My third just learned on her own without me ever doing anything.

Now... Evie is first grade this year. If we were public schooling we would have held her back and she would be K just because she's a little behind where my others were in all aspects (she doesn't even have a hint of a loose tooth for instance) BUT she's really taking off with LHFHG now. I started it this past January, but it was obvious she wasn't ready. I put it aside and started again after her birthday in April. She was doing ok, but half speed was still a little much. We took three days to do one day worth of school. She was still doing math and the FMS books full speed, so therefore she's done with K math and FMS and almost done with 1st grade FMS. Now full speed really isn't enough most days (unit three). So I decided to pull out the phonics stuff again and just take it at her speed and not stress over it. We started Tuesday with Reading Made Easy. She's already finished lesson 13!! I am so proud of her!

I guess I'm still in awe that I'm actually imparting wisdom to one of the kids!

That is super! I am hoping that happens with my youngest! After a couple of strugglers, I'm hoping for easy again. :)
