First Day of School!!!!

Post by SetApartForHisGlory » Sun Aug 09, 2015 3:33 pm

Hi Moms! We're officially starting our new school year tomorrow. We're officially starting our new journey as a HOD family tomorrow, as well. I was introduced to HOD last August when I had already planned everything for the year, and I wasn't able to change those plans and do HOD with my oldest, but I did start Little Hearts with my Kindergartener the second half of the year. It's a milestone year (to me anyways) for each of my kids. My oldest is starting 6th grade with CTC. My son is starting 1st grade doing LHFHG the first half and Beyond the second. And my youngest is officially starting preschool with LHTH.

The last two years of homeschooling have been very hard for us. I struggled with getting a good routine down, and it never really fell into place. I struggled with getting it all done. I would plan too many assignments from too many places, and we would get behind with one thing and then it would snowball and become this massive amount of schoolwork we were months behind in :( I am so excited about using an all-in-one curriculum that has everything planned for me, so I don't have to be keeping track of so many different things for each subject for each child. Still, with each of my kids one year older, I am scared! We really NEED this to be a successful year. So if any of you could say a prayer for my family, for our homeschool year, and our HoD journey, I would so appreciate it!! And I will pray that all of you have a wonderful year as well :)

God Bless,
Andrea

Megan I feel the same way! I never thought I would even think there was a "perfect curriculum", but I really do feel that way about HOD :)

Blessings on your school year! So glad to hear things are off to a great start!!

Have fun ladies! And don't worry about taking it slow to begin with. We just finished our first week (starting our third year with HOD) and did a nice and easy half speed pace and it was perfect. Enjoy having all the work planned for you!

Thanks, all of you! We had a great day!! Especially with my oldest. We had such a good time this morning doing her school. What we were reading led to so many good discussions, and it was only a half day's worth! For her we planned to do half speed for two weeks to ease into it. I just got an email from my mom about taking her for a couple days this month to do some bike riding with her and my nephew. I don't want to get behind right after we get started, so I asked my daughter if she would mind doing the other half of today's lesson to get a day ahead. She was happy to! I asked her "how do you feel your first day went?" and she said "Good! A lot better than I thought it would!" haha.

I should also mention, a couple years ago she started becoming very snappy, mean, distant, etc. Hormonal I suppose! But this last month it's like I finally have my little girl back! She's sweet, helpful, engaging, interested in what I have to say (!) and it's been really wonderful. Doing HoD with her today, it was like the ideal images I've had in my head of homeschooling my children finally came true! Don't get me wrong, I know not every day will go like this, but I have to rejoice on the days that do.

Thank you Lord! Thank you, Carrie! And thank you, ladies! You will be in my prayers daily this year, I promise <3

I'm so happy for you! Days like those are what help us to continue on when it gets tough--it's a shot in the arm. :) Thanks for sharing.
