LHTH Praises from my Daughter

Post by mommybelle » Thu Mar 26, 2015 10:46 pm

I completed Unit 3, Day 4 of LHTH with my 4 yo today. Back when we started LHTH this year, my oldest got very excited and asked if she could join in on this very specific lesson as she remembered it quite well from 3 years ago! This was the lesson on Abraham and the three men from heaven. Originally with my oldest (and this time around), we took the activity outside with a picnic similar to Abraham's time (bread, olive oil, raisins, veggies, no silverware or napkins). The "three men", aka stuffed animals, joined us. Both girls had a blast!

While tucking my oldest into bed this evening she said that the picnic was her favorite part of the day. Then she proceeded to tell me "that is why I want you to have thousands and thousands of babies...so I can join in on the fun activities over and over again!"

Unfortunately, with my oldest, I felt like I needed to add to the guide because she was older when I started her on it, and I "thought" she was bored. As a result of my adding unnecessary tasks, I became overwhelmed, and we never did finish LHTH. This time around (besides the food at our picnic today), we don't add a thing, and I am enjoying and soaking in every minute with my sweet 4 yo! Thank you HOD for a wonderful curriculum!

Here is a picture of our picnic. My 4 yo is Abraham, and my oldest daughter is Sarah (laughing).

That is so precious! I know exactly what you mean about the dreaded word "adding." I didn't find HOD until last year but I was so bent on challenging my oldest that I actually put her into stress mode for the first three years of her school. Thankfully, God put some things in our path (my oldest has mild dyslexia and my son has auditory processing disorder) so that I literally couldn't continue on in this fashion! And the amazing blessings that have resulted are numerous! I dropped all those other programs that basically promised a better and smarter child. Because I found HOD, my kids love school and I will have ultimately have a fantastically smart and high thinking child in the end anyway.

And as an encouragement to you with your kids - I had my year end assessment yesterday for my kids (in my state, I can have a certified teacher sign off on my schooling, and it can be completed before the end of the school year) and she praised HOD over and over again! I don't add! And my kids have learned so much. Yesterday, my oldest had to create her own catapult. It was amazing and very functioning. She had a spoon somehow rigged to a box. The box had a pencil rigged in it with a rubber band connecting the spoon and pencil to create a spring back affect for when she launched something. It was pretty darned cool! Assignment created by ...... HOD of course.

So yes, I agree, absolutely no adding required :-). We just do lots of enjoying too :-)

What an encouraging post! I love to see that. I think we can get so caught up in making sure they are "learning" with more and more curriculum that we lose out on life and enjoying our children and letting them learn from living life with us! I am going to do your picnic idea when we get there in a few weeks. I want to really enjoy my time with my 3 yo. Time is so short with them, and my time is especially since I'm so busy with the other ones.

I love your daughter's heart that wants "thousands and thousands of babies"!! Are you going to grant her request?? How could you not with her reasons why!!

Love how it is truly always about the memories... and the learning flows through those experiences. :)
