Drawn into the Heart of Reading
Drawn into the Heart of Reading
Hi, another question. Sorry new here and still learning Anyway, regarding the Drawn into the Heart of Reading do you need to buy the specific book packs or are there suggestions in the teacher's guide for books? I am great at finding books in the public library and also we have quite a home library as well. Has anyone purchased the Sample Books Ideas List? Again I appreciate any help. Take care and thank you

There is not a list of books in the teacher's guide. However, the sample book ideas list will be a helpful tool if you are utilizing the library. I refer to it whenever I need to replace a book in the book packs that ds or dd has already read.

Re: Drawn into the Heart of Reading
We ordered DITHOR with the free sample book list (comes free when you order the teacher's guide and student workbook together). It is a great list, and for $5, it is probably worth it if money isn't super tight. You could create something on your own like it, but it would take some time for sure. So, the $5 is probably well spent.
As for books to use, like the PP said, there are no books listed in the teacher's guide or workbook. This is because you can truly use any book that fits in the genre and reading level. But, the books Carrie has picked she has read, which means they are most likely free of objectionable material, etc (each family of course is different). She also lists two books when necessary so the books are long enough to cover 15 days of reading. The books on the sample book list she hasn't read, and you would have to decide if one book is long enough for 15 days of reading or not. But, the books are leveled and listed by genre for you, which does save you some time. They also come from good sources, so they aren't super likely to have questionable content in them.
The main reason I bought the book pack is because we don't always get to the library on time, and some times the book we want isn't available when we want it. So, it is just easier to own them since money isn't tight. If money is tight, then using the library will work for sure. We have done that with Beyond storytime (which is basically a simplified version of DITHOR where the parent reads the books) this year.

Re: Drawn into the Heart of Reading
I just wanted to pop in and say that I have the book list and I think it is great. My youngest is very advanced and voracious reader. I have used it just to fill my kid's (all of them in fact) appetite for a good book.
