Drug Education

Post by mamamag5 » Tue Feb 10, 2015 12:16 pm

Hi Ladies,

I live in Colorado where Marijuana is legal. It is everywhere and many kids use it and think it is okay because it is legal. The pressure to do it is strong. The days of drug users being losers is over. Smart, young, athletic, musical, popular, not popular are all using and telling all their friends it's okay. I want to teach my children the truth about drugs and how they affect your body so when confronted with this they will know the facts not just what their friends or co workers tell them. Does anyone know a good resource to use?

Thank you for your help!
Shirley

Ladies,

The Total Health curriculum that we use during the high school years is excellent about covering this topic in a Biblical, God-honoring way. The Introduction to Logic curriculums we schedule in the World Gegoraphy Guide also teach kiddos to recognize fallacies in advertising, which is also a hugely helpful skill in combating the promotion of habits that are not healthy. Prior to high school, I would resort to having discussions with my kiddos when you come across ads or signs that you feel promote something of which you do not agree and spend time in discussing how the Lord views our bodies as His temple and cares what we put within them. You may wish to back this up with several Scripture verses that explain our bodies are the temple of the Lord. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

We speak often with the kids about mankind being made in the image of God. This image has been marred and God is at work in us to restore that image. There are many substances and activities that are used in a fallen world system to destroy human dignity, and the big deal is not as much "what is this going to do to my body" as it is "what has this done to the lives of everyone involved in getting it to me". To have the mind of Christ is my goal for the kids.
