Beefing up a program for Jr./Sr. High

Post by Carrie » Sun Feb 01, 2015 2:34 pm

This post of Jackie's below was moved to the Main Board General Discussion area (from the sticky for "Beefing up a program for Jr./Sr. High" at the top of the board), so more viewers can read and respond.

Hello HOD families! :D

I saw this post and although I see it originated quite a few years ago, I have a very similar need for some guidance in this area. Our children will be in 6th, 9th, and 10th grades and we are considering using HOD this summer. My thinking is that we'll start with RtR for my youngest, but I'm concerned for my high school girls. We are not very strong in the teaching of narrations, and I have heard that the HOD high school programs are focused on heavy narrations. My eldest dd still needs US History and government/economics for graduation. I'm afraid that if I have her begin with the new US History guide (due out soon), she will be overwhelmed since HOD is pretty new to her. I was also considering RtR for my 6th and 9th grade children, just so they can gently learn the HOD way. I would really appreciate any guidance and suggestions, especially encouragement. Thank you all and God bless!

Hey Jackie, here's some encouragement:-) Checking placement charts, where do they place? I know there are lots of tips on how to beef up MTMM, including adding economics, and maybe that would work for your 9th and 10th graders. You can start dictation any time...just a few minutes a day:-) Your 6th grader could do CTC with extensions and then continue on and be in MTMM in 9th grade following the same plan as the older girls. I'm sure someone will be able to add to this, but I thought I'd get things going for you  I think you will love the heart in HOD.
