HELLO CTC Bible??

Post by mrsrandolph » Mon Jan 26, 2015 1:24 pm

You guys KNOW how scared I was to start CTC today, and when it came time for me to show them how to do their Quiet Time, I couldn't find Pilippians in the DK Bible!! Is it not there? I mean that's where their memory work is from!! Am I missing something?

They read the pages in the illustrated Bible that are listed for the Quiet Time and highlight the verse noted. Then they move on to the Bible memorization and they do that from whatever bible version you prefer ie NIV, KJV whatever. They are in the same box, but not connected in the way you are thinking. The bible memorization is not connected to what they are reading in the DK bible. They spend all year memorizing Philippians. I hope that makes sense.

It doesn't make sense to me that the Bible sold with the set wouldn't contain the scripture they focus on all year. Was I just supposed to figure that out?

I guess that's what happened!

Here is the description of the Bible from the CtC packages page:
Description: Based on the New International Version Bible, this stunning, lavishly illustrated 384-page book is a retelling of the Bible stories rather than a complete version of the Bible. Old and New Testament stories are presented chronologically with full-color illustrations supported by helpful captions. Each story is further complemented by illustrated side panels explaining key words and concepts, as well as by photographs of actual sites, artifacts, and works of art. The people of the Bible are defined in appendices for both the Old and New Testaments and throughout the text as needed. Superb, realistic artwork conveys the drama of the Bible text, bringing the main characters and places involved to life by placing the stories within their social, historical and geographic context. Relevant chapter and verse numbers are clearly marked within each retelling.

And here is the description of the memorization CD:
Students are scheduled to memorize Philippians 2, a little at a time each week, from the Scripture version of your choice. To help students memorize Philippians 2, add the corresponding audio for students to sing along with the Scripture. 7 songs in a variety of musical styles are included to provide a word-for-word memorizing tool for the NIV version of Philippians chapter 2. Each song fits well with the mood of the various parts of Philippians 2 and makes memorizing Scripture a joyful experience. The included music does include some drums and a variety of instruments. We found ourselves singing along with the music easily and enjoying the words of this beautiful chapter of the Bible.

In that box you can read either the Bible sold with the set or you own personal Bible. We chose to use our own Bible. My kids have an NIrV Bible and we like it because they have been able to read it for quite a few years now (it is written to a 3rd grade reading level). So for the Scripture Focus and Scripture Memory work, you would need to use your own Bible.

As for memory work, did you buy the CD? We did. That is what my dd uses to memorize Philippians this year. Memorizing the songs has been great because it is really helping her keep it all in her head :-)

Does the CD correspond word for word to any translation?

The CD is one of the NIV translations. I have an NIV Bible and there were a couple of words different but 99% of the words were the exact same. I think it says on the cover or on the back with specific translation it is. It also has the words printed inside the case on the paper cover that is included. This way your child can follow along with the words.
