counting credits in Revival to Revolution

Post by LakesideJohnson » Tue Oct 07, 2014 1:04 pm

Hi,
I wish I'd taken notes when I talked with the Austins at the Arlington Homeschool Book fair year before last. I need advice on how to count high school credits. I'm trying to document credits for last year -- 9th grade for my boy.

We did a Saxon Math algebra and an Apologia Biology (with dissection). I'm sure I can count one each math and science there.

What I'm not clear on is how to count the Revival to Revolution part.

We did the Rod and Staff grammar. We did the science option one books, and the history read-alouds, but not the 'self study extension package for older students'.

Thanks!

StephanieU gave the exact link I was going to give, and it describes Carrie's thoughts on making RevtoRev high school credit worthy. These are the same thoughts I've heard Carrie share at book fairs with families, as well as Mike, so I think that link will be very helpful. :D

In general, this is how you'd count credits...
Doing all of RevtoRev including Extensions: American History 1 (1 full credit)
Doing RevtoRev Signer Study, and adding reading 5,000 Year Leap book and reading some of the Federalist Papers and Constitution OR adding Zeezok's A Noble Experiment: Government (1/2 full credit)
Doing DITHOR 6/7/8 with at least 8 classic literature selections, half of English 7, dictation (unless completed through Level 8 already), poetry study, "Exciting World of Creative Writing": English (1 full credit)
Doing Bible and adding noted things: Bible (one full credit)
Doing EE Advanced Kit and Inventor Study Plans for Science: Physical Science with lab (1 full credit)
Doing Composer Study and beefing up as noted: Fine Arts Music Appreciation (1/2 full credit)
Appropriate high school level math course of your choice: 1 full credit

HTH! :D

Julie, Stephanie,
Thanks, you guys are super! I'm still trying to assimilate all four pages at that link, but I can safely say that this question is 'answered'.

A few observations:
I'm a guy, an engineer, and the posters here have had a ton more discussion about what constitutes a Lit credit than I'd have ever imagined. Let's just focus on the science and math a bit, ya think?

It took me several tries to guess the meanings of the acronyms used here. Is there a glossary?

:-)

   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself! :) I'm sure being an engineer that math and science are subjects more near and dear to your heart. :) The acronyms are like another language to learn sometimes. Here are a few common ones used on the board...
