Grading WH science

Post by kidsforHim » Sat Aug 30, 2014 8:51 am

I'm familiar with ace paces(school of tomorrow), that there are checkups, selftest, and tests. Am I right that these are NOT scheduled in? And if not, can you tell me how to give a grade for doing the questions in activity pac, watching the dvd lab & filling out lab sheet.? My son is doing this & I would really like to have some help with the grading. I am use to giving percentage grades but maybe someone can help me think differently
Thanks!

Anybody?? This is the biology in the world history guide. What guidlines can I use to give a grade? I am use to doing the checkups etc. & giving grades(my personal school experience was with ACE) accordingly, but he has not been doing school this way- meaning textbooks, worktexts, tests, etc. We have been doing written narrations and such but now that he is in high school, what determines a given grade if we won't be doing the checkups & tests?
I hope it's ok to ask this here.We are not using the WH guide at this time but we are using the science choice. Maybe I am out of place asking this on this board but I don't know where else to go for help.
Thanks,
Becky

I think the reason no one has answered is no one is using the WH guide yet. The first segment of plans will be out I think soon, but the grading guidelines won't be fully completed until when the guide is fully edited and printed which is I think around March. If Carrie sees this she is the only one who might have an answer, but she is working diligently to get the guide completed.

Oh! I see. Thanks for clarifying that for me. I understand Carrie is very busy & also having physical difficulty. The science would be similiar to the world geography science, integrated physics and chemistry, in that it uses worktexts and probably has test included. ? So maybe someone who has used that could tell me how the grading worked for that? Just basically wanting to know how to give a grade if/when the tests are not used.
Thanks!

I am using the WG science and the test aren't used in that because there wasn't time to schedule them since she added the labs. I don't remember reading anywhere though that the Biology tests were not going to be scheduled. I assumed they were, but I could be very wrong on that. For the IPC science in the WG guide I am just grading his daily work which counts for 60% of his grade and then with the labs he gets full credit if he fills out the lab pages completely, does the calculations correctly and follow the directions. The labs are worth 40% of his grade. The percentages are what Carrie outlines in her grading suggestions.
