LHFHG art question

I'm not a craft, artsy person so could you please enlighten me on what kind of paper to use? For example, random opening to unit 26 day 1 Artistic expression box it says, give student a piece of white paper. My brain says just use copy paper, they use crayons; then down further its says use blue watercolor paint, I know copy paper won't hold up to the paint. Do you get special paper specifically for painting? What do I use?

I'm not necessarily artsy/crafty either but I have a pad of paper from Target that says "paint and marker pad." The paper is a little thicker and I think that would probably be great for painting on. I hope that helps!

In LHFHG I just use copy paper and the cheap crayola water colors.... It works fine for us.

I always just used copy paper. I think the school watercolors do fine.

In LHFHG, I mainly used copy paper, but I also had one pack of white cardstock paper from Walmart on hand. This worked well because I could choose which one I thought matched the project better. I had construction paper of multiple colors too. Miller Pads and Papers online is a wonderful, Christian art supply company that has great prices on things too - especially as dc get into the older guides and have other supplies they use that are noted in the "Introduction" of the guides. I also would get a pad of card stock type paper for when you want to use it. For our school house - there is a lot of trial and error LOL. Now that my kids are older, I have a lot more supplies. But I always keep my eyes open when Michaels has sales - B1G1 on paper - and I will use coupons too. I have found Hobby Lobby has nicer sets of brushes for painting and those brushes say what they are for (mixed media, water color, oil, acrylic). Now that my oldest is in CTC, we pretty much have every art supply known to man LOL.

Some of the things I was glad to have - I have water color crayons (Reeves brand from Michaels - very fun to play with even if it isn't for "art"), I have mixed media paper and painting paper, I have special water color paper, I have a waxed crayon (you can draw a picture on the paper, then use water color over the drawing and where ever the wax is, the water color doesn't absorb - very cool), I always get a thick pad of card stock type color paper form Michaels found in the creative memories section. I have used this for their booklets they make in Preparing and CTC, and I always have a couple of stacks of regular Crayola colored paper that you can get on sale for Toys R Us. I also went to buying the acrylic paint bottles when on sale and having all the primary colors along with White and black. I did this because the crayola ones don't do well and the primary colors are the only ones that mix well together. In addition, I bought cheap sets of water color tubes and trays. And I have some small paint trays to mix paint on as well. These are my main things I try and keep on hand year to year. The one thing I do buy every year though is I get the Artist Loft color pencils from Michaels. You get 36 colors and they cost $5. My kids love them and love to color their drawings with these color pencils. I like the variety of colors available and that they last. You can also mix these colors together when you are coloring something. I found the Crayola didn't mix.

Nothing I mentioned was specifically necessary in any way for Little Hearts. I just was sharing my art collection with you that keep at my house for whatever projects. I have also spent money on things that were garbage and so I was trying to list brands to hopefully help if you were looking to increase your supplies.

But for Little Hearts, nothing extravagant is needed. However, it is nice to grow supplies a little bit a time because you never know when something might come in handy.
